2019 Ford F-150 Driver assistance Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the driver-assistance system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Driver assistance reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

When driving, especially from a low gear (2-5), the transmission will downshift to 1, high revving, and then slam back into 4 or 5th, depending on where it downshifted. Sometimes the rapid acceleration causes the back of the truck to start to break lose. I notice this alot when trying to get up to speed, and can usually take my foot off pedal and it will slow the vehicle and upshift.

The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle hesitated. The contact stated that while attempting to reverse, there was a loud sound coming from the front of the vehicle. A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed; however, the diagnostic result was unknown. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the issue would be escalated. The approximate failure mileage was 35,000.

While driving on a highway, my 2019 Ford F-150 suddenly lost power during acceleration due to a transmission malfunction. The truck hesitated and failed to respond to the accelerator, nearly causing a rear-end collision. The transmission required a major overhaul at approximately 53,000 miles, yet the same symptoms returned shortly after the repair. Around 56,000 miles, the engine also developed a cam phaser/timing chain failure requiring extensive repairs. These major drivetrain failures at such low mileage raise serious safety concerns and indicate a potential manufacturing defect. I believe this vehicle poses an unreasonable safety risk to drivers and the public.

My 2019 F-150 has only 25,000 miles. The dealership has confirmed transmission failure requiring a $9,000 replacement. A transmission is expected to last significantly longer than 25,000 miles. I have maintained the vehicle. This is an extraordinary premature failure on a critical part of the vehicle and it poses a massive safety liability

Over the years the engine has felt like it was slipping or stalling. It appears to be increasing more. Sometimes it happens while cruise control is on. Today, the engine slipped for a prolonged time, more than usual, and then RPMs decreased. Warning sign of a “wrench” appeared on screen and said see manual. I was also unable to put vehicle in reverse. Slips more at lower speeds when accelerating.

1.unexpected downshift into second gear while driving - like the engine is falling - causes severe jerk and sometimes truck revs/ goes into neutral - just revs. 2. frozen tailgate latches and door latch defects 3. additionally the transmission harsh shifting when cold (safety/drivability defect): When the vehicle is cold, the 10‑speed transmission shifts harshly, hesitates, clunks, and delays engagement. This matches Ford’s transmission TSBs for calibration and adaptive learning issues. The dealership acknowledged the shifting issue but did not perform the required calibration or TSB procedures. The dealership refuses to document my reported symptoms or perform the TSB repairs unless the failure is happening in front of them. This prevents known defects from being repaired and leaves the vehicle in an unsafe condition. Ford Customer Service confirmed the shifting issue exists but the dealership still did not perform the calibration. ford corp customer service didnt understand and manager didn’t even know what a tsb is:/ so no help at corporate. as chuck the manager stated he didn’t know what document i was referring to and i told him the number as well ? I contacted Ford Customer Service and a case was opened. A customer service manager named Chuck returned my call. He stated that the TSB is “not a warranty” and that the dealership “has to duplicate the condition” before Ford will authorize the repair. I explained that the tailgate freezing issue cannot be duplicated on demand because it only occurs in cold overnight temperatures, not during daytime service hours. Despite this, Ford insisted the dealer must reproduce the failure, even though Ford’s own TSBs describe this exact cold‑weather condition.

"Upon shifting the vehicle into the 'Drive' (D) position, the transmission produces a loud, audible striking/clunking sound. When accelerating from a stop, the transmission consistently slips and exhibits severe hesitation. Furthermore, the vehicle experiences a complete loss of power/engagement when attempting to shift into 4th gear, creating a safety hazard during higher-speed driving. These symptoms occur regularly and affect the predictable control of the vehicle."

I’ve been experiencing harsh shifts between 1st and 3rd. Slip shifts and delayed engagement between 5th and 8th gears. Recently I just experienced no engagement at all while accelerating from red light loss of complete power and slippage. Truck just stopped accelerating which could cause an accident. I got no warning. This is not a new problem. It’s an ongoing issue that needs to be rectified before serious injuries. 10R80 transmission. CDF drum bushing failure and outer casing putting metal shavings in unit causing valve body damage.

Rear backup camera intermittently fails or displays blank, dark and distorted image when vehicle is in reverse, creating a safety hazard and increasing risk of collision. Occurs when shifting into reverse and creates safety risk for pedestrians, children, cyclists and property. Similar F-150's are already under recall for this same issue, even 2019 F-150 models.

After a stop sign, I turned right onto a busy street. With foot on the accelerator, vehicle would not accelerate, and I had to quickly turn off into the right of way to avoid a collision. Fortunately there wasn’t a curb there. The vehicle was in “D”. I believe the transmission is faulty. It has happened multiple times. Also, the vehicle occasionally will not go into Park, more evidence of a faulty transmission. I believe Ford should recall and replace the transmission before it causes a serious accident.

When driving home from work at night on the highway in a 55mph zone my truck lost all power and the ability to accelerate. While on the highway began to hit the gas a bit more and saw the gears go from gear 10 all the way down to 1st gear at 55mph. Not sure what was happening and the truck began to “gear hunt” (attempting to find a gear that would give power). The truck gave me a check engine light and a alert of reduced power. I started to smell a burning smell in the vehicle and someone behind me was flashing me with their high beams to attempt to alert me something was wrong. I rolled the window down and looked in my mirror and saw white bellowing smoke being produced from behind the vehicle causing other drivers to either change lanes or slow down so they can see. I used what speed I had left from going down a on ramp to pull into a parking spot behind a building on the main road and had to call for a tow truck very late at night after my shift. I had the vehicle towed to that into the service department of a certified Ford dealership. After a few days of waiting for a response on the diagnosis of the vehicle, they stated that the transmission had blown and needed a replacement.

Around curves truck will down shift too many gears. The problem was when it did it recently with the icey roads the tires locked up for a second and I got sideways. I got it straight but if a car was coming I would crashed. My speed was around 50 but I let off the gas to slow down for the curver never applied brakes yet. It does it usually when slowing down its done it since ive owned it and its never bothered me too much until this recent instance. No warning lights, only recall is back up camera I dont have issues with. Ive complained to many ford dealers and my year dose not qualify, if I want to get it fixed I need to buy new transmission.

2019 F-150 2.7L EcoBoost, 10-speed. Intermittent unintended acceleration: while coasting or braking at low speed (10–25 mph) the engine suddenly revs to 3–4k RPM with a strong lurch forward against the brakes. Requires hard braking and shifting to Neutral to stop. Happens year-round, warm or cold, no warning lights. This is a known issue covered by TSB 19-2135 and SSM 49240 This problem started in 2020 at about 10K mileage. Has occurred about 10 times since with about 82K mileage now. The service dealer at Acton Ford tried to reproduce the problem a couple years ago by driving it, but acceleration problem didn’t happen. The problem occurred today, Dec 6, 2025 while braking for a stop light when I had to stomp on the brakes and shifted into Park. This could be dangerous if I pulled through the red light into cross-traffic.
