2019 Ford F-150 Other / unspecified Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the other system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Other / unspecified reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

vehicle shifted from 1st to 3rd gear and as I accelerated the engine RPMs drastically increased. The transmission jumped from 3rd to 8th gear and then immediately dropped to 1st gear while I was at 40-45 mph. Due to the speed the back tires locked and the vehicle jumped from 1st to 3rd gear and I stopped. Thankfully I did not have a vehicle behind me, or they would have him me. Dealership determine and confirmed hard/harsh shifting between 3rd, 5th, 6th while skipping 4th and 5th. No codes or warnings found upon download by the technician. Technician could not replicate it shifting from high gears to 1st and locking the tires. Recommended and completed adaptive learn procedure, but vehicle is still hard shifting 3rd and 4th gear. Very concerned the vehicle could downshift from higher gears and lock the tires again which will cause an accident.

Tire/wheel was losing air, upon investigation I discovered a cracked rim, which is my second in 8 months. Upon looking online, I see that ford is attributing this issue to aggressive stiff-wall offroad tires. I have the fx4 offload package with the factory wheels and BF GOODRICH KO2 all-terrain tires, which are the most common all-terrain tire in the US. I am using the same size tires as came from the factory. The change in tire is the only modification I have done from factory. I have followed the factory rotation guide. I have not done any offroading other than maintained gravel roads with this pickup, and I am not an aggressive driver. I do not believe that that is the cause here.

The driver front wheel developed a crack in it on the inside of the wheel. It was detected due to the tire leaking air. It was not immediately detected in the dunk tank at discount tire and I continued to fill air and drive on the rim until the leak accelerated, and discount tire was finally able to detect the leak. With the wheel compromised, if I hit something wrong, or even just driving, the crack was expanding, and could catastrophically fail while driving, resulting in a loss of control as well as a risk of debris for myself and other drivers to hit. There are no signs of impact on the rim. I have pictures of the crack, as well as the wheel and tire available for inspection if needed.

Dealership could not rotate tires due to swollen lug nuts. Wanted $258.00 to replace all lug nuts. I called 800-392-3673. Said vehicle out of warranty. Said had no other calls about this problem. I look on line lots of people have this problem. I will try to fix on my own before have flat and can not remove tire on side of road. Looks like a safety issue.

Issue was with the boat trailer tire for VIN 405119BA2LC000663. Goodyear Marathon, ST205/75R14, DOT [XXX], 8/32 tread remaining. Steel belt failure. Tires pressure was set to 40 psi before trip. Failure occurred after 45 minutes on the highway traveling at 65 mph. Felt a bad vibration, then loud bang when air came out of tire. This tire is only 8 years old. I replace them at 10 years. My vehicle went in for oil change, tire rotation and tailgate recall. Now I was told by the dealer that lug nuts had swelled because manufacturer put caps on the nuts which causes overheating. According to my dealership I have 12 lug nuts to replace. Is this reasonable to replace these items on a 4 year old vehicle? My dealership told me they don't make vehicles like they used to.

HIGH AMPLITUDE VIBRATION AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. MOST NOTICEABLE BETWEEN 50 AND 70MPH. I COMPLAINED ABOUT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY DETERMINED THE RING AND PINION GEARS NEEDED REPLACING AT 4200 MILES. VIBRATION PERSISTED, SO I TOOK IT BACK AND THEY TRIED ROADFORCE BALANCING THE WHEELS/TIRES AND CHECKING FOR RUNOUT. THIS DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM EITHER. THEN THEY TRIED REPLACING WHEELS AND TIRES ALL TOGETHER, STILL WITH NO SUCCESS. *TR

DEC 20, 2019, HAD A FLAT. PUT ON SPARE; RIM FIT BUT TIRE WAS 17 INCH, INSTEAD OF 20. CALLED SERVICE DEPT OF LUGOFF FORD. "[XXX]" ADVISED ME NOT TO DRIVE FURTHER OR FASTER THAN ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. TOOK TRUCK IN THE NEXT DAY AND THEY FIXED THE FLAT. SAID NO MANAGER WAS THERE, CALL BACK MONDAY. I CALLED BACK MONDAY AND THE OPERATOR SAID [XXX] WOULD CALL ME BACK. I CALLED EVERY DAY FOR THE NEXT WEEK AND ON JAN 9,2020, HE CALLED ME BACK AND SAID HE WOULD SEE WHAT HE COULD DO AND CALL ME BACK. I WAITED 3 DAYS AND BEGAN CALLING EVERY DAY TO LEAVE A MESSAGE. HE STILL HAS NOT CALLED. IN THE INTERIM, I CALLED "FORD NATIONAL" ON JAN 21, 2020, AND TALKED TO "[XXX]" [XXX] CAIN PUT ME ON HOLD 3 TIMES FOR SEVERAL MINUTES WHILE SHE TALKED TO LUGOFF FORD. FINALLY SHE CAME BACK TO THE PHONE AND SAID THAT AFTER THE FIRST CONVERSATION, LUGOFF FORD KEPT GIVING HER THE WRONG EXTENSION OR DISCONNECTING HER. TO SUMMARIZE, I BELIEVE THEY SHOULD HAVE GIVING ME 5 20 INCH TIRES INSTEAD OF 4 WHEN THEY INSTALLED THE $2000 "APPEARANCE PACKAGE". IF THEY WERE GOING TO GIVE ME A "DOUGHNUT", THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN SOME SORT OF HIGHLY NOTICABLE DISCLAIMER. THE ONLY WAY I COULD HAVE KNOWN I DID NOT HAVE A REAL SPARE WOULD HAVE BEEN TO CRAWL UNDER THE TRUCK.(EVEN 2 OF THEIR TECHNICIANS AND 1 OF THEIR SALESMEN DID NOT KNOW WHEN I ASKED THEM.) I BELIEVE THEY SHOULD TAKE BACK THE 17 INCH TIRE AND GIVE ME A 20 INCH TIRE INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR *JS
