HYDRAULIC PUMP SHAFT FAILURES
THE PRELIMINARY EVAULATION IS BEING UPGRADED.DURING THE EA ODI WILL LIMITITS INVESTIGATION TO ONLY THOSE VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A HYDRO-BOOST SYSTEM, WHICH PROVIDES POWER ASSIST TO THE BRAKING AND STEERING SYTEMS.VACCUUM BRAKE BOOSTER VEHICLES ARE EXCLUDED.ODI HASEXPANDED THE SCOPE OF THE EA TO INCLUDE MODEL YEARS2003 AND 2004, ASDURING THE PE, ODI LEARNED THAT THE HYDROBOAST PUMPS WERE MODIFIED IN FEBRAURY 2004.THEREFORE,ODI HAS EXPANDED THE SCOPE TO INCLUDE THE ADDITIONAL MODEL YEARS.ODI'S IS CONCERNED BECAUSE THISISA SUDDEN FAILURE THAT AFFECTS TWO CRITICAL SYSTEMS OF THE VEHICLE, BRAKES AND STEERING, AT THE SAME TIME.THE ABILITY OF THE OPERATOR TO HANDLE THE DUAL FAILURES IS A CONCERN. FURTHER, THESE VEHICLES TEND TO BE WORK VEHICLES, WITH SOME OVER 10,000 POUNDS GVWR AND MANY EQUIPPED TO PULL LARGE TRAILERS.DUAL FAILURES OF HEAVILY LOADED VEHICLES AND VEHICLES PULLING TRAILERS FURTHER INCREASES THE SAFETY RISK.ODI PLANS TO CONDUCT TESTING TO QUANTIFY THE BRAKING AND STEERING PERFORMANCE DEGRADATION AND THE IMPACT ON SAFE VEHICLE CONTROL, WHEN A HYDROBOAST PUMP FAILS.

The contact owns a 2000 GMC Sierra 2500. The contact stated that the spare tire detached from the vehicle after the cable securing the spare tire fractured. The contact discovered the failure upon returning to the residence from an errand and found the spare tire in the driveway. No warning lights illuminated, and no unusual sounds occurred prior to the failure. The contact expressed concern that the detached spare tire could become a road hazard and increase the risk of a crash. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 178,000.

WHILE DRIVING THE BRAKE AND ABS LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHT UP. THIS HAS OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING OF THE FREEWAY AND ON CITY STREETS. SOMETIMES THESE LIGHTS GO OFF AND SOMETIMES THEY REMAIN LIGHTED. WHEN THIS HAPPENS I FEAR THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES AND HAVE TAKEN THIS MATTER TO A MECHANIC. THE BRAKES WERE EXAMINED AND HE FOUND NOTHING WRONG. THIS IS VERY STARTLING TO THE DRIVER AND OF GREAT CONCERN. THIS APPEARS ON INTERNET SEARCHES AND IT APPEARS THAT 100,000 PLUS INDIVIDUALS HAVE THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALER AND OBVIOUSLY THIS MATTER HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO THERE ATTENTION. YET THEY CLAIM THEY ARE UNFAMILIAR AND WANT TO CHARGE $600 TO DIAGNOSE AND THEN LIKELY MORE TO FIX. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A LIE AS THERE IS NO WAY THAT ONE COULD BE READING SO MUCH ABOUT THIS ON THE INTERNET IF IT WAS NOT A PROBLEM IN THE GMC SIERRA TRUCKS. SOME CLAIM IT IS A FAULTY CIRCUIT BOARD WHILE OTHERS HAVE LOST THE USE OF THEIR BRAKES. THIS IS OF GREAT CONCERN. THIS OCCURS WHILE DRIVING AND THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AND SOMETIMES AT HIGH SPEEDS ON A FREEWAY.

GMC TRUCK FRAMES CRACKING, ROTTING OUT, BRAKING DUE TO POOR DESIGN AND COATING AND GM WON'T STEP UP AND TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AS TOYOTA HAS. THE CONSUMER GETS AN UNSAFE VEHICLE BECAUSE OF FRAMES GIVING OUT WELL BEFORE THE BODY, THE FRAMES SHOULD BE STRONG. IN UNDER 2 YEARS THE FRAME WENT FROM STRONG AND SAFE TO NOW RUSTED UP SCRAP METAL. AMERICAN QUALITY SHOULD BE OF GREAT STANDARDS IN MY UP MOST OPINION BEING AN ARMY VETERAN. GENERAL MOTORS SHOULD COMPANSATE OWNERS OR BUY THEM BACK AS TOYOTA HAS.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 GMC SIERRA 2500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE SLIGHTLY LOWERED TOWARDS THE GROUND. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN WITH CAUTION TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THAT THE DRIVER SIDE MAIN FRAME RAIL WAS FRACTURED IN THE CENTER. ADDITIONALLY, THE PASSENGER SIDE MAIN RAIL WAS PARTIALLY FRACTURED. THE FAILURE WAS BEYOND REPAIR. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE BRAKE LINE AND REAR CROSS MEMBER NEAR THE FUEL TANK WERE COMPLETELY CORRODED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,000.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Vehicle Wide Programming (VWP) is a new process to update software on GM Vehicles. It provides the ability via a single selection within Techline Connect to first identify which modules need updating and then proceed to updating affected modules (with some exceptions). The updating of modules is completed in parallel instead of the technician needing to update one module at a time. This allows a more streamlined approach for dealers and customers.
POWER TRAIN
GM is receiving damaged (cracked or broken) transmission cores returned to the reman facilities. The damage is being caused either in the removal process by the technician, or inadequate packaging or shipping. This bulletin advises the dealers to be more careful not to damage the transmissions during removal and to package the core properly for return.
ENGINE; FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
This service bulletin advises of a new fuel injection cleaner kit used for decarbonizing the intake valves to correct conditions of rough idle, Crank no start, extended crank or misfire, MIL with DTCs, and explains how Top Tier fuels should be used to reduce carbon build-up.
