Recalls, owner-reported complaints, investigations and safety data

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.

InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

SEAT BELTS:FRONT:BUCKLE ASSEMBLY

Nov 20, 2013
774 units potentially affected
The defect: Fleetwood RV, Inc. (Fleetwood) is recalling certain model year 2014 model American Eagle, American Heritage, American Revolution, American Tradition, Bounder, Bounder Classic, Discovery, Excursion, Expedition, Providence, South Wind, Storm, Terra, Terra SE, Jamboree Searcher, Jamboree Sport, Tioga Montara, and Tioga Ranger recreational vehicles equipped with IMMI-brand L9 seat belt assemblies. When the button is pressed to release the seat belt, the latch plate can become partially engaged with the buckle, making the seat belt difficult to unlatch. Thus, these vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 209, "Seat Belt Assemblies."
The risk: If the latch plate remains partially engaged after the button is pressed, egress from the vehicle could be hindered which would increase the risk of injury in the event of an emergency.
The remedy: Fleetwood will notify owners and dealers will inspect and replace the seat belt buckle, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on January 17, 2014. Owners may contact Fleetwood at 1-800-322-8216. Fleetwood's recall number 131112FRV.

The defect: Fleetwood RV is recalling certain model year 2014 American Revolution, Bounder, Discovery, Expedition, and Southwind motorhomes. Fasteners that attach the solar panel may become loose during normal use.
The risk: A loose solar panel may separate from the vehicle during travel. This may cause personal injury and/or a road hazard to other vehicles, increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy: Fleetwood will notify owners, and dealers will install new locking nuts to secure the solar panel, free of charge. The recall began on June 13, 2013. Owners may contact Fleetwood RV at 1-800-322-8216. Fleetwood's recall number is 130517FRV.

The defect: Fleetwood RV, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2013 Jamboree Sport Diesel, Providence, Tioga DSL and Tioga Ranger DSL; 2014 Excursion, Expedition, Jamboree Sport, Montara Commercial, Searcher Commercial, Southwind, Storm, Terra, and Tioga Ranger; and 2013-2014 Bounder, Bounder Classic, and Discovery recreational vehicles. The vehicles are equipped with Weatherpro and 9100 series power awnings. Due to a design change in the power awning motor assembly, the motor assembly screws may unknowingly shear.
The risk: If the motor assembly screws shear, it is possible that the awning can unfurl unexpectedly, either while the vehicle is at rest or while in transit, increasing the risk of personal injury or a vehicle crash.
The remedy: Fleetwood RV will notify owners and Dometic staff will replace the affected motors with motors of a different design. The recall began during June 2013. Owners may contact Fleetwood RV Owner Relations at 1-800-509-3418 or Dometic at 1-888-447-0003 for more information. Owners are being instructed not to drive their vehicle until repairs can be performed.

DUE TO POOR ILLUMINATION PRODUCED BY MY MOTORHOME HEADLAMPS WE HAVE STOPPED NIGHT DRIVING UNTIL A FIX IS FOUND. FMVSS 108 REQUIRES PHOTOMETRIC TESTING OF LAMPS AT 12.8V +/- 20MV, OR 12.78 TO12.82 VOLTS. I PURCHASED A VOLT TESTER AND TESTED OPERATING VOLTAGE AT THE HEADLAMPS AS DIRECTED BY A AUTOMOTIVE LIGHTING CONSULTANT. VOLTAGES FOR LOW BEAMS WERE 12.16V FOR THE PASSENGER SIDE AND 12.49V FOR THE DRIVERS SIDE. VOLTAGES WERE FOUND WITH ENGINE RUNNING, LIGHTS ON,AND BATTERY 14.17V. I CONDUCTED A VOLTAGE DROP TEST WITH ENGINE OFF AND FOUND VOLTAGE DROP TO THE PASSENGER SIDE LOW BEAM TO BE1.53V TO THE POSITIVE TERMINAL AND .21V TO THE NEGATIVE TERMINAL FOR A COMBINED VOLTAGE DROP OF 1.74V. THE AUTOMOTIVE LIGHTING CONSULTANT CONSIDERS THIS A SIGNIFICANT DROP IN VOLTAGE.THIS LEADS ME TO QUESTION IF THE TURN SIGNAL LAMPS MEET MAXIMUM ALLOWED VOLTAGE DROP OF 0.8V REQUIRED BY FMVSS 108. AS DESIGNED MY ELECTRICAL SYSTEM DOESN'T SUPPLY ENOUGH VOLTAGE TO REACH RATED OUTPUT OF EACH BULB CREATING AN UNSAFE AND DANGEROUS DRIVING ENVIRONMENT. USING MARKINGS LOCATED ON EACH HEADLAMP I DISCOVERED THAT THE COMPLIANCE CERTIFICATIONS OF MY HEADLAMPS ARE QUESTIONABLE AND POSSIBLY FRAUDULENT. THE MANUFACTURER IS DEPO, WHO HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN 19 RECALLS FOR HEADLAMPS OVER THE LAST 7 YEARS. I HAVE REACHED OUT TO OTHER OWNERS OF FLEETWOOD BOUNDERS AND ALL RESPONDED THEY BELIEVE THEIR LIGHTING TO BE POOR. THIS LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THAT THIS ISSUE IS SYSTEMIC ACROSS THE BOUNDER LINE GOING BACK TO AT LEAST MODEL YEAR 2012. I AM REQUESTING FLEETWOOD RV OR NHTSA ISSUE A RECALL TO INSPECT ALL BOUNDERS FROM YEAR 2012 TO 2014 AND DETERMINE A REMEDY TO INCREASE VOLTAGE AT THE HEADLAMPS TO A MINIMUM OF 12.8V AS WELL AS HAVE THE DEPO HEADLAMPS TESTED FOR COMPLIANCE WITH FMVSS 108. IF PHOTOMETRIC REQUIREMENTS ARE NOT MET FLEETWOOD SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL TO REPLACE HEADLAMPS WITH COMPLIANT UNITS. *TR

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
