Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.

InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

EQUIPMENT:MECHANICAL:INTEGRATED JACK/LEVELER/STABILIZER

Oct 6, 1994
72 units potentially affected
The defect: THE LEVELING JACK HYDRAULIC HOSE LINES ARE ROUTED CLOSE TO THE ENGINE EXHAUST MANIFOLD. THIS CAN CAUSE THE HOSE TO MELT AND RESULT IN A HYDRAULIC FLUID LEAK ONTO THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD.
The risk: HYDRAULIC FLUID MAY DRIP ONTO THE HOT EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND IGNITE CAUSING A FIRE. ALSO, LOSS OF LEVELING JACK HYDRAULIC FLUID WOULD MAKE IT IMPOSSIBLE TO RAISE OR LOWER THE LEVELING JACKS.
The remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE AND RELOCATE THE AFFECTED HYDRAULIC LINE.

FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER:DELIVERY:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS

Jun 9, 1994
131 units potentially affected
The defect: THE LIQUID PROPANE GAS (LPG) PIPES AT THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE ARE ROUTED SO THEY CONTACT THE TAG AXLE DURING VERTICAL MOVEMENT. THIS CONTACT CAN RUPTURE THE LPG PIPE AND ALLOW LPG LEAKAGE.
The risk: CONSEQUENCE OF NON-COMPLIANCE: WHEN A MIXTURE OF LPG GAS AND OXYGEN IS EXPOSED TO A SOURCE OF IGNITION, AN EXPLOSION CAN RESULT AND IGNITE SURROUNDING COMBUSTIBLE MATERIALS.
The remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A SECTION OF COPPER TUBING IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE TO REPLACE IRON PIPING IN AN AREA OUT OF THE SCOPE OF THE AXLE SWING AREA.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

Apr 30, 1993
359 units potentially affected
The defect: WHILE OPERATING THE ENGINE IN REVERSE GEAR, ENGINE TORQUE CAUSES THE ENGINE TO ROLL, CAUSING THE THROTTLE MODULATOR CABLE ASSEMBLY TO CONTACT THE FLOOR AND BIND THE THROTTLE CABLE HOLDING THE THROTTLE IN AN OPEN POSITION.
The risk: THE THROTTLE CABLE BINDING WHILE THE THROTTLE IS IN ANOPEN POSITION CAUSES LOSS OF ENGINE SPEED CONTROL WHICH COULD RESULT IN ANACCIDENT.
The remedy: RELOCATION OF RAISED FLOOR SUPPORT HARDWARE ON THE BOX PORTION OF THE MOTORHOME.

I HAVE A '93 CHEVY P30 CHASSIS WITH THE INFAMOUS AUTO PARK BRAKE. THE SYSTEM IS UNSAFE AND I AM SCARED OF IT. THE SYSTEM WILL APPLY THE PARKING BRAKE GOING DOWN THE ROAD IF YOU LOSE POWER STEERING FLUID. MINE LEAKS, I HAVE TO CONSTANTLY MONITOR THE FLUID, IT LEAKS AT THE ACTUATOR UNDER THE COACH. GM NEEDS TO FIX THIS SYSTEM, IT CAN STOP YOU DEAD ON THE HIGHWAY, ONE ONLY CAN THINK WHAT CAN HAPPEN. PLEASE HAVE THEM FIX IT. *JB

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
