Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.

InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.

The defect: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2025 Murano, Pathfinder, and INFINITI QX60 vehicles. One or both front brake caliper assemblies may have reduced strength and could break. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 135, "Light Vehicle Brake Systems."
The risk: A broken front brake caliper can cause a loss of front brake function, increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the front brake caliper assemblies as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 9, 2025. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 800-647-7261 or INFINITI's customer service at 1-800-662-6200. Nissan's numbers for this recall are PD137 and PD138.

At approximately 10,444 miles, while driving under normal operating conditions, the vehicle began emitting an unexpected, severe friction sound while braking, which rapidly escalated to a harsh metal-on-metal grinding noise. A physical safety inspection by an authorized dealer service center revealed that the rear brake pads had completely failed, wearing entirely down to the bare metal backing plates. This catastrophic wear occurred at an unacceptably low mileage, bypassing standard wear indicator warnings, and caused deep, structural scoring to the rear rotors. Both the rear pads and rear rotors required immediate replacement to restore safe vehicle braking operation. The front brake assemblies remain fully functional with ample friction material remaining, indicating that this is not standard driver wear. This sudden failure at a fraction of the component's normal operational lifespan points to a severe systemic defect within the rear axle braking system, mechanical binding, or electronic parking brake (EPB) calibration error unique to this platform. The premature degradation poses an immediate safety risk, as metal-on-metal friction severely increases stopping distances and elevates the risk of a rear axle braking lockup or collision.

My Nissan Pathfinder has a recurring water intrusion problem through the sunroof area whenever it rains. The problem first occurred in June and has happened again this month during the rainy season. Water enters the vehicle cabin during rainfall, creating a significant concern about the safety and reliability of the vehicle. The vehicle was inspected by a Nissan dealer, and I was informed that the sunroof drain tubes need to be replaced. The dealer also informed me that the required drain tubes are currently on nationwide backorder and are not available. As a result, the vehicle has not been permanently repaired and continues to leak whenever it rains. The problem has been reproduced during actual rainfall, and I have video recordings documenting multiple incidents of water entering the vehicle. The videos and vehicle are available for inspection upon request. This vehicle is our only vehicle and is regularly used to transport two toddlers. Repeated water intrusion into the passenger compartment raises concerns about safe operation and the possibility of additional damage to the vehicle, including electrical components, wiring, carpeting, interior components, and other systems. There were no known warning lights or warning messages associated with the water intrusion. The primary symptom is water entering the cabin through the sunroof/drain area during rainfall. The Nissan dealer has confirmed the suspected cause as the sunroof drain tubes and advised that replacement parts are currently unavailable due to the nationwide backorder. I am reporting this issue because the water intrusion is recurring, the vehicle remains unrepaired because of the parts shortage, and the problem occurs whenever it rains. I am concerned about continued exposure to water and the potential safety consequences if the condition worsens.

The hydraulic braking system failed, causing a complete loss of brake pedal resistance and a severe brake fluid leak. The vehicle is currently located at an authorized Nissan dealership and is available for inspection upon request. The vehicle suffered a sudden braking failure while traveling at highway speeds with my family inside. The brake pedal lost all resistance, requiring me to slam the pedal completely to the floor just to slow the vehicle down from 30 mph to 10 mph. The vehicle would not come to a complete stop normally, forcing me to rely on the forward collision sensor triggering and extreme floor-pression to avoid a collision, putting my family and other drivers at risk of injury. The problem has been confirmed by the physical evidence of the failure, as the vehicle left a large puddle of brake fluid in my driveway and leaked a significant, continuous trail of fluid while being loaded onto the tow truck following day. The vehicle was towed directly to an authorized Nissan dealership this morning for official diagnosis and confirmation. No, the component has not yet been inspected by third parties. It was just towed to the Nissan dealership this morning and is currently awaiting their official inspection and technical report. No warning lamps, messages, or symptoms prior to the incident. The failure happened suddenly yesterday evening while driving on the highway. While safely parking the vehicle the first set of warning message came up.

The contact owns a 2025 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the rear glass fractured. The contact inspected the vehicle and determined that there was no impact to the glass to cause the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the contact was informed that the failure was a known failure with similar vehicles. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The vehicle was in the process of being repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 12,000.

Component/system failure. Engine shut off while driving @ 70 mph. The car first shifted into neutral all on its own, system shows AT MALFUNCTION. Vehicle was towed to nearest dealership so it is available for inspection. Safety concern is that the vehicle died in 2nd left hand side of road my had my husband not been able to essentially coast and cross 2 lanes of traffic to get to shoulder the vehicle could have potential been sitting in the 2nd left hand lane where traffic was going 70 plus mph. The dealership has not been able to reproduce issue other than seeing the AT Malfunction code, the vehicle is not starting as it did on side of highway. No other inspections have been done to my knowledge. No messages or warnings appeared prior to the vehicle switching into neutral and turn off engine.

If there is an accident it could be a life or death issue !

I just bought a nissan pathfinder in novemeber 2025.the mileage is around 13100 miles.while driving on the highway a part of my exterior trim panel on the right rear passeger side door just ripped off and flew away. I was lucky i did not meet any accident. I conatcted the Nissan company and that i don’t feel safe driving in this vehicle so i want them to replace it but they would not do that. This is a safety-critical defect that could cause a crash if it happens again or if a detached part hits another vehicle. A part falling off at highway speeds poses a clear risk off collision, injury or property damage to my vehicle and others. I am concerned this is a manufacturing defect that could recur. Now i am scared every time i drive this vehicle thinking something might fall off again and i will meet with an accident. I don’t feel safe in the vehicle anymore since I’m usually travelling with my family.

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
