WITH CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED, INTERSTATE HIGHWAY, 65 MPH, ENGINE RPM 1900, 5TH GEAR, AFTER ENCOUNTERING A SLIGHT GRADE, TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTS FROM 5TH, TO 4TH, TO 3RD, TO 2ND GEAR, ENGINE RPM 4500, IN 48 SECONDS. ENGINE RACES UNTIL CRUISE CONTROL IS MANUALLY DISENGAGED. THIS HAPPENS WITHOUT WARNING, IS VERY STARTLING, AND I BELIEVE, COULD LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT WITH AN INEXPERIENCED DRIVER, AND/OR IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. THERE ARE AFTER-MARKET DEVICES AVAILABLE WHICH CLAIM TO SOLVE OR MINIMIZE THE PROBLEM. MULTIPLE FORD "CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE" REPRESENTATIVES AND DEALER SERVICE REPS FROM NC TO AZ WILL NOT ADMIT THERE IS A PROBLEM. THEY SAY THE CRUISE CONTROL PERFORMS "NORMALLY" AND OFFER NO HELP TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I HAVE SENT A VIDEO CLIP SHOWING THIS MALFUNCTION TO SEVERAL OF THEM WITHOUT ANY POSITIVE RESULTS. REQUEST IS TO HOLD FORD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR FAULTY PRODUCT DESIGN, GET THEM TO ADMIT THERE IS A PROBLEM AND FIX IT, BEFORE IT CAUSES A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. FORD TECHNICAL PEOPLE NEED TO PROVIDE A SOLUTION BECAUSE THEIR DEALERS AND "CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE" REPRESENTATIVES ARE SIMPLY PASSING THE BUCK WITHOUT SOLVING THE PROBLEM. *TR

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
