Loss of motive power due to engine failure post recall remedy
The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received 36 Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQs) alleging engine failure in vehicles subject to Recall 25V274. In each VOQ, the engine had the recall remedy completed prior to the reported failure incident. Recall 25V-274 addresses vehicles equipped with a L87 6.2L V8 gas engine that experienced engine damage or failure. Recall 25V-274’s remedy includes an engine inspection. Based on the results of the inspection the vehicle will receive an oil change to a higher viscosity oil or an engine replacement. The complaints received allege failures of both remedies. ODI is opening this Recall Query (RQ) to assess the adequacy of the remedy for Recall 25V-274. Loss of motive power due to engine failure
The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received 1,157 reports of engine bearing failure failures in the L87 6.2L engine produced by General Motors (GM). Of the 1,157 reports received, 173 are outside of the scope of recall 25V-274. These engines are installed in Model Years (MY) 2019–2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500, and 2021-2024MY Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe, GMC Yukon/Yukon XL, and Cadillac Escalade/Escalade ESV vehicles. The subject engine failures were investigated as part of a Preliminary Evaluation (PE25001). GM determined that these engine failures were due to multiple supplier manufacturing and quality issues. GM issued recall 25V-274 to address the supplier manufacturing and quality issues produced between March 1, 2021, and May 31, 2024. Based on the issuance of recall 25V-274, NHTSA has closed PE25001. ODI continues to receive a significant number of reports of engine failure in vehicles outside the scope of 25V-274. This presents a potential safety risk that warrants further investigation. ODI is opening this Engineering Analysis (EA) to further evaluate the scope and severity of the potential problem and to fully assess the potential safety-related issues of vehicles built outside the recall scope. Loss of motive power due to engine failure
On January 16, 2025, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Preliminary Evaluation PE25001 after receiving complaints and field reports concerning engine failures in MY2019-2024 GM’s full-size truck and SUV T1XX platform equipped with the L87 6.2L V8 engine. These complainants alleged engine bearing failures resulting in knocking and growling noises from the engine’s bottom end and in some cases more severe consequences such as broken connecting rods leading to engine damage, or engine failure. If the engine fails during vehicle operation, the vehicle will lose propulsion, increasing the risk of a crash. On April 24, 2025, GM issued recall 25V-274 to address the concern with L87 engines produced between March 1, 2021, and May 31, 2024. GM cited the root cause as a supplier manufacturing and quality issues. GM’s recall remedy will be either an oil change to an oil with a different viscosity or engine replacement depending on the results of the remedy inspection procedure. To date, ODI has received 1,157 allegations of engine bearing failure. GM submitted 55,464 reports in total, with 29,752 unique VINs. ODI continues to receive allegations of L87 engine failures which fall outside of the scope of recall 25V-274. Based on GM’s recall, ODI will close this PE. NHTSA will continue to investigate complaints of engine failure outside the scope of recall 25V-274 as part ofEngineering Analysis (EA25007). While driving, my Chevrolet Tahoe suddenly developed a severe, rhythmic bottom-end engine knock, indicating a catastrophic internal mechanical failure. I immediately took the vehicle to an authorized Chevrolet dealership on May 29, 2026, for emergency diagnosis.The dealership technicians officially diagnosed the issue as a severe lower-end engine failure. They deemed the engine unrepairable and determined that a complete long-block engine replacement is required.As of today, July 6, 2026, the vehicle has been sitting at the dealership for over 5 weeks and has yet to be fixed. The prolonged delay and sudden mechanical failure present a severe safety hazard, leaving me without a vehicle due to known GM manufacturing defects currently under NHTSA investigation. This report is being filed to document the failure of the 6.2L engine lower end, the necessity of a full long-block replacement, and the ongoing repair delay.

Vehicle: 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe RST The backup camera and HD Surround Vision system on my 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe have experienced repeated failures despite multiple repair attempts by an authorized Chevrolet dealership. The failure presents as a black screen displaying a red warning triangle and a crossed-out camera icon when the vehicle is placed in reverse or when camera views are selected. The parking sensors continue to function, but no camera image is available. The vehicle was first repaired in July 2025 (6705 miles) after the dealership diagnosed heat damage to the rear camera coaxial cable located in the liftgate area. The cable was replaced, and the vehicle was returned to service. The camera system failed again the same day. The vehicle was subsequently returned to the dealership, where the liftgate harness was replaced in Aug 2025. Following the repair, the camera system operated normally for a period of time before the same failure condition returned. At approximately 16,500 miles (May 2026), the backup camera and HD Surround Vision system have again become inoperative. This represents at least the third occurrence of the same issue despite prior repairs involving replacement of camera-related wiring components. The loss of the backup camera and surround vision system significantly reduces rearward visibility while backing, parking, and maneuvering the vehicle. Because the condition is intermittent and recurring, the driver cannot reliably depend on the camera system to function when needed. I am submitting this complaint because the issue has recurred multiple times after repair attempts and may indicate a broader defect affecting the vehicle's camera system.

I am reporting a serious safety concern involving a 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe with approximately 23,000 miles.I have a video recording of it . While the vehicle was being driven, water suddenly began actively dripping from the rear cabin light/headliner area into the interior of the vehicle. There were children inside the vehicle at the time, including a child seated directly underneath the area where the water was dripping near the child seat. A significant amount of water is entering the vehicle and continues dripping throughout the interior cabin area. The water appears to be coming from the upper rear cabin/light area and may have entered the electrical system or interior electronic components of the vehicle. I am extremely concerned about potential electrical hazards, safety risks, corrosion, and malfunction of electronic systems caused by water intrusion inside the vehicle. This vehicle has relatively low mileage for its age and has not been modified. The condition appears to involve a possible manufacturing, sealing, or drainage defect. Because children are transported in this vehicle daily, I believe this issue presents a serious potential safety concern and should be formally investigated. On Saturday, April 25, 2026, I experienced engine failure on my 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe 6.2L V8. This was a very dangerous situation, and could of been potentially dangerous to others around me on the highway. There was no warning just complete loss of engine propulsion at highway speeds. It was towed to the dealership on this same date. On Monday, April 27, 2026, it was confirmed by the Chevrolet Dealership that this vehicle suffered catastrophic engine failure and that the engine was seized up. Inspection would be available upon request.

My vehicle started having stuttering/shifting issues back in August 2025, I was advised the vehicle did not need new engine but upgraded oil. I continued to have the issues and have continued to bring back to dealer for constant software updates - cannot duplicate issue meanwhile the stop sale order was issued and I was not advised. The vehicle then experienced very hard jerking- stall- that lead to the dealership putting an AWD IN 2WD calling it a fix! Just got vehicle back again after a complete stall at a stop sign- causing vehicle to roll back and cut back on! Dealer stated the vehicle showed the stall/shutter but could not duplicate on road test. This is a serious safety issue!!

The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55-60 MPH, the vehicle stalled. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer 10 times and the dealer retrieved diagnostic trouble codes for the control module, body control module, rear parking assistance, loss of communication, and transmission solenoid. The vehicle was not repaired. While driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle shifted out of the intended gear and shifted into neutral. The vehicle then went into LIMP Mode. The manufacturer was contacted and opened a case. The failure mileage was approximately 30,837.

The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving at 76 MPH, the vehicle was driving abnormally rough. The RPM increased, and the message to shut-off engine and restart the vehicle was displayed. The contact stated that the failure occurred while the two minor children and their friends were inside the vehicle. The contact's daughter stated that the vehicle was in neutral after leaving the car wash. In addition, the failure occurred while driving on a busy two-lane highway. The vehicle was almost involved in a crash twice when the engine seized in the middle of the left lane. The contact stated that while attempting to drive the vehicle to the shoulder of the road, the engine seized. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to restart. The local Police assisted with traffic control. The vehicle was towed to the dealer; however, the failure was not duplicated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The dealer was informed that the Mobile App indicated a transmission and engine failure. The dealer informed the contact that because the engine seized, the engine needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that there was no indication of what caused the engine to seize. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The contact referenced an unknown recall with a similar description; however, the VIN was not associated with the unknown recall. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 16,988.

PICOSCOPE test passed on 2/3/2026 with mileage of 58061 at Everett Chevrolet, Benton, AR. On [XXX], while driving received an error code, no oil pressure and vehicle became disabled in the middle of the road. Tahoe was towed to Teeter Chevrolet in Malvern, AR.
