The contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra. The contact stated that while driving at 42 MPH, she was involved in a three-vehicle accident after a vehicle involved in another accident ricocheted and hit her vehicle. The driver's side air bag exploded but did not deploy. Black smoke was released from the steering wheel and the air bag fell on the contact's left leg. The driver seat belt retractor fell apart during the accident which sliced the top part of the contact's ear; in addition, the failure sent a part of the contact's earing into her ear canal. The driver of the vehicle that was originally hit in the accident died the next day in the hospital; another passenger in that same vehicle was critically injured. The contact was treated days later at a hospital for a severe burn to the left leg due to the airbag. Her leg remained infected despite the treatment received at the hospital. The contact's ear was not treated. A police report was filed. The contact's vehicle was initially towed to an independent mechanic and then to a friend's home. The contact's insurance had yet to make a decision on the repair for the vehicle. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V245000(Seat Belts) and 17V437000(Air Bags, Seat Belts) which she linked to her failure. The dealer nor the manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was 93,622.

THE VEHICLE LIGHTS ARE VERY DIM EVEN WITH THE HIGH BEAMS ON. WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT CAN BARELY SEE IN FRONT OF ME. THESE ARE A HAZARD TO ME AND OTHERS, SINCE NOT BEING ABLE TO SEE A GOOD DISTANCE IN FRONT OF THE VEHICLE MAKES HARD TO SEE PEDESTRIANS, ANIMALS OR DEBRIS IN THE ROAD AT NIGHT.

Manufacturer communications
A bulletin sent by a manufacturer to its dealers. Not a recall, and repairs are not necessarily free.
TIRES
This informational bulletin provides information on the temporary tire flat spotting condition.
SUSPENSION:REAR:SPRINGS:LEAF SPRING ASSEMBLY
This technical bulletin provides a procedure to lube the rear leaf springs on vehicles with the condition of a squeak noise originating from the rear of the vehicle.
FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE
This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that may have a bump feel or clunk noise at a stop or on launch. Dealer should communicate to the customer this condition is a normal operating characteristic of their vehicle. The bump clunk issue may be due to fuel movement in the fuel tank when not completely full. The condition is eliminated after completely filling the fuel tank.
SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:PEDALS AND LINKAGES
This Preliminary Information communication advises the technician that the Hydro-Boost is not serviceable and will need to be replaced if the brake pedal moves or applies on its own at a full turn.
EQUIPMENT
THIS PRELIMINARY INFORMATION COMMUNICATION PROVIDES INFORMATION TO THE TECHNICIAN ABOUT FINDING NEEDLE BEARINGS DURING AN OIL CHANGE. TECHNICIAN WILL GAIN ACCESS TO THE ROLLER ROCKERS TO INSPECT THEM. ONLY REPLACE THE ROLLER ROCKER THAT IS MISSING NEEDLE BEARINGS. BE SURE TO CLEAN THE OIL DRAINS TO RETRIEVE THE NEEDLE BEARINGS. EACH ROLLER ROCKER HAS 66 BEARINGS.
ENGINE
THIS PRELIMINARY INFORMATION COMMUNICATION PROVIDES INFORMATION TO THE TECHNICIAN ABOUT VEHICLES THAT MAY HAVE A COLD ENGINE TICK NOISE FOR 50 SECONDS AT START UP. TECHNICIAN DETERMINES IF THE TICK NOISE IS POSSIBLY COMING FROM THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD, AS THIS NOISE COULD EASILY BE MISTAKEN FOR AN ENGINE TICK NOISE. IF YOUR SI DIAGNOSIS DOES NOT ISOLATE THE CAUSE OF THIS CONCERN, THIS CONCERN SHOULD BE CONSIDERED A VEHICLE DESIGN CHARACTERISTIC OF THE ECM CALIBRATION AND NO ADDITIONAL REPAIRS SHOULD BE PERFORMED.
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
