The defect: Keystone RV Company (Keystone) is recalling various 2003-2018 Crossroads, Dutchmen, and Keystone recreational trailers equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. A list of the affected trailer models is available at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V755-5127.pdf. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or excessive force may be needed to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. The risk: In the event of a fire, if the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury.
The remedy: Keystone will notify owners and instruct them to contact Kidde for a replacement fire extinguisher, free of charge. The recall began on January 15, 2018. The defect: KEYSTONE IS RECALLING 161,250 MY 2004-2007 FIFTH WHEEL AND TRAVEL TRAILERS EQUIPPED WITH A TWO-DOOR REFRIGERATOR MANUFACTURED BY THE DOMETIC CORPORATION. THE REFRIGERATOR MAY HAVE A DEFECT IN THE BOILER TUBE. PRESSURIZED COOLANT SOLUTION COULD BE RELEASED INTO AN AREA WHERE AN IGNITION SOURCE (GAS FLAME) IS PRESENT.
The risk: IF THIS SOLUTION IS EXPOSED TO AN IGNITION SOURCE UNDER CERTAIN SPECIFIC CIRCUMSTANCES, IT CAN RESULT IN A VEHICLE FIRE.
The remedy: KEYSTONE IS WORKING WITH DOMETIC TO REPAIR THESE REFRIGERATORS (PLEASE SEE 08E032). DOMETIC WILL REPAIR THESE REFRIGERATORS BY INSTALLING A SECONDARY BURN HOUSING, A THERMAL FUSE, AND A MELT FUSE FREE OF CHARGE. DOMETIC HAS RETAINED STERICYCLE INC. TO MANAGE THIS CAMPAIGN. STERICYCLE WILL ASSIST THE OWNER IN LOCATING DEALERSHIPS OR SERVICE CENTERS AND WILL PROVIDE ASSISTANCE WITH SCHEDULING OF APPOINTMENTS. The defect: CERTAIN TRAVEL AND FIFTH WHEEL TRAILERS MAY HAVE A DEFICIENT AXLE WELD JOINT BETWEEN THE AXLE TUBE AND SPINDLE.
The risk: THE SPINDLE WILL SEPARATE FROM THE AXLE TUBE AND THE WHEEL AND HUB ASSEMBLY WILL COME OFF THE VEHICLE WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.
The remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THESE AXLES. THE RECALL BEGAN ON APRIL 27, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT KEYSTONE AT 1-866-425-4369.

IN RESPONSE TO THE PRODUCT FAILURES THAT PROMPTED ODI TO INITIATE INVESTIGATION PE05-022, KEYSTONE RV HAS FILED TWO DEFECT NOTICES (1) 05V-201 ON MAY 5, 2005 TO ADDRESS 174 MODEL YEAR 2006 CAMBRIDGE VEHICLES AND (2) 05V-424 ON SEPTEMBER 22, 2005 TO ADDRESS 834 MODEL YEAR 2005 AND 2006 MOUNTAINEER, COUGAR, SPRINTER, AND TAIL-GATOR MODEL VEHICLES.BOTH CAMPAIGNS PROPOSE TO REPLACE CERTAIN 16 CHROME PLATED STEEL WHEELS THAT WERE INSTALLED AS ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT IN THESE VEHICLES.TREDIT TIRE, KEYSTONE RV'S SUPPLIER OF TIRE AND WHEEL ASSEMBLIES, HAD INVESTIGATED THE REASONS FOR THE CRACKED AND BROKEN WHEELS, DETERMINED THE CAUSES, AND NOTIFIED KEYSTONE AND ODI (05E-051) OF THEIR FINDINGS IN AUGUST-SEPTEMBER, 2005.KEYSTONE RV HAS REPORTED FIVE INCIDENTS OF WHEEL CRACKS IN 2004 AND 2005 MODEL YEAR MONTANA BIG SKY FIFTH WHEEL VEHICLES. THESE REPORTS INDICATE THAT CERTAIN VEHICLES MANUFACTURED PRIOR TO MARCH 2005 MAY ALSO BE EXPERIENCING CRACKED, BROKEN, OR LEAKING WHEELS.ACCORDINGLY, ODI WILL EVALUATE WHETHER ADDITIONAL ACTIONS APPEAR TO BE WARRANTED FOR WHEELS INSTALLED IN KEYSTONE RV VEHICLES MANUFACTURED PRIOR TO MARCH 2005 AND NOT ADDRESSED BY CAMPAIGN O5V-201 OR 05V-424.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 KEYSTONE COUGAR 314 EFS RV. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT END COLLAPSED WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SOUTH COUNTRY RV REPAIR (541-863-3826) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT FRAME AND KINGPIN SEPARATED DUE TO POOR METAL AND WELDING. THE RV WAS REPAIRED AND THE FRAME AND KINGPIN WERE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 KEYSTONE COUGAR FIFTH WHEEL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BOLTS THAT HOLD THE FRESHWATER TANK PUNCTURE THROUGH. THE TRAILER WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO VERIFIED THAT THE BOLTS PUNCTURED HOLES IN THE TANK AND AS A RESULT, THE TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED BY CUSTOMER SERVICE THEY WOULD ONLY PAY TO HAVE A KIT INSTALLED, NOT TO REPAIR THE REFRIGERATOR. *JB

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE TRAVEL TRAILER HAD A FORMALDEHYDE SMELL COMING FROM THE CONSTRUCTION MATERIAL. THE FORMALDEHYDE CAUSED THE CONTACT TO BE SICK FOR ONE WEEK AND THE EPA STATED THAT FORMALDEHYDE COULD CAUSE CANCER AND RESPIRATORY PROBLEMS. THE DEALER DETERMINED THAT THE TRAILER HAD THIS PROBLEM, BUT COULD NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT AND THE ODOR WOULD GO AWAY IN TWO YEARS. THE MANUFACTURER DENIED THE CLAIM.*AK UPDATED 10/31/2006 - THE CAMPER WAS TESTED AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE VAPOR WAS ABOVE THE EPA'S RECOMMENDED EXPOSURE . THE CAMPER REGISTERED, AT IT'S HIGHEST LEVEL, 0.46 PPM AND THE RECOMMENDED LIMIT IS 0.1 PPM. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE DEALER AND ASKED THAT THE MANUFACTURER TO EITHER REMOVE THE COMPONENTS CONTAINING FORMALDEHYDE OR REPURCHASE THE CAMPER FROM THE CONSUMER. THE GENERAL MANAGER AT THE DEALER REFUSED TO TALK TO THE CONSUMER OR RETURN HIS PHONE CALLS. THE CUSTOMER REP AT KEYSTONE SAID THAT KEYSTONES POSITION WAS THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAMPER. *NM

TREAD PEELED THE TIRE ON MY 5TH WHEEL CAMPER WITH LESS THAN 1,000 MILES ON IT. THE TIRE IS A MISSION ST235/80R16 LOAD RANGE E MANUFACTURED IN THE 33RD WEEK OF '05. THE TIRE NEVER ACTUALLY WENT FLAT (I PULLED OVER IMMEDIATELY AND CHANGED IT.) THE FAILURE CAUSED SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO MY CAMPER. I WAS TRAVELING 65 MPH IN A POSTED 70 MPH. CALLED TIRECO AT 800-227-8925 AND THEY'RE SENDING ME FIVE NEW TIRES AND A CLAIM FORM TO GET THE DAMAGE TO MY CAMPER REPAIRED. *NM
