Loss of Motive Power
On January 31, 2024, The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened a Preliminary Evaluation (PE24002) to investigate loss of motive power allegations in model year (MY) 2021 Ford Bronco Sport vehicles. Consumers reported a loss of engine power accompanied by complete electrical system failure either while driving or after stopping at a traffic light or stop sign. The vehicles generally could not be restarted, and the incidents were commonly diagnosed by dealerships to a failed 12-Volt (12V) battery. On April 12, 2024, Ford issued safety recall 24V-267 covering 456,565 MY 2021-2024 Ford Bronco Sport and MY 2022-2023 Ford Maverick vehicles. The recall addressed loss of motive power resulting from sudden degradation of the 12V battery during the drive cycle. The recall remedy consisted of software updates to the body control module and the powertrain control module. The updated software aimed to provide warning to consumers when the battery is failing and inhibit certain vehicle functions which can lead to loss of motive power incidents. Additionally, Ford removed the existing 12V Enhanced Flooded Battery (EFB) as both a service component for the subject vehicles and original equipment for newly built Bronco Sport vehicles (during MY 2024 production), replacing it with a more robust absorbed glass mat (AGM) battery. The same AGM battery had been incorporated into Ford Maverick production in late 2022. Following recall 24V-267, ODI received loss of motive power complaints in vehicles that had previously received Ford’s software-based remedy. Consumers reported that they did not receive warnings related to the 12V battery or the vehicle’s electrical system before the loss of power. On November 15, 2024, ODI opened Recall Query (RQ24014) to assess the effectiveness of the 24V-267 recall remedy. On January 19, 2025, Ford issued recall 25V-019 covering 272,817 MY 2021-2023 Bronco Sport and MY 2022-2023 Ford Maverick vehicles. The new recall addressed the same hazard as 24V-267 but required replacement of the existing 12V battery with an AGM battery as the remedy. Ford reported that following the opening of RQ24014, it evaluated several field-returned 12V batteries, and determined that EFBs produced by battery supplier Camel potentially contained internal manufacturing defects causing loss of motive power. Ford further concluded that the software updates provided in the 24V-267 recall remedy were unable to detect battery failures quickly enough to avoid loss of motive power. Vehicles previously within the scope of recall 24V-267, but outside of the scope of recall 25V-019, are equipped with EFBs produced by a different battery supplier (Clarios). When recall 25V-019 was issued, Ford had not identified any Clarios EFBs exhibiting the same failure mode as the Camel EFBs. In light of Ford’s recall action, ODI is closing this Recall Query. The agency will continue to monitor loss of motive power complaints in Bronco Sport vehicles equipped with Clarios EFBs and reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. I had stopped at an intersection and when I applied the gas, the truck stuttered a bit before going. It ran okay for less than a mile. I stopped at the next intersection and when I applied the gas, the truck shuttered, started to go then just stopped. It stayed running but didn't want to go. I was able to get it through the intersection but that was it. The message i am getting is powertrain malfunction/reduced power. When we put our diagnosis tool on it, we get code P0757.

The driver's side (left front) door failed at the check-arm attachment point inside the door assembly: the spot welds securing the check-arm reinforcement bracket to the inner door structure cracked and separated. The vehicle is a commercial fleet 2022 Ford Maverick XL SuperCrew with approx. 82,000 miles. The vehicle and failed component are available for inspection upon request. First symptoms were difficulty opening and closing the door with popping/cracking noises. No warning lamps or messages occurred; the failure is concealed inside the door. This is a safety risk because the check arm attachment supports the door's structure. The same weld separation on related vehicles has been documented by NHTSA (investigation PE23-013) to cause doors that fail to latch, fail to stay closed, or open while driving, risking occupant ejection and injury. The failure was confirmed 7/17/2026 by Grapevine Collision Center (Grapevine, TX) after a Ford dealership stated there is no recall or warranty coverage for the Maverick and referred me there. The shop diagnosed broken check-arm welds and quoted $2,602.46 for a door shell replacement, noting it has seen this identical failure on Ford Escapes and Lincoln Corsairs. Not inspected by Ford, police, or insurance. This is the same failure mode NHTSA investigated on 2020-2021 Escapes (PE23-013), which Ford addressed via Customer Satisfaction Program 23B56 covering 2020-2023 Escapes. The Maverick shares the same C2 platform and door design but is excluded, leaving owners to pay out of pocket for a defect Ford repairs free on sibling vehicles.

I am filing a formal safety defect complaint regarding a severe catastrophic transmission failure on my 2022 Ford Maverick ( 2.0L EcoBoost 8f35 8 speed transmission ) that poses an immediate safety hazard to occupants and sharing traffic. Upon inspection a heavy volume of metal shavings flakes were discovered also the code PO73D unable to engage in neutral came up. The safety risk of this specific failure is extreme because the vehicle is physically unable to respond to a neutral command the driver cannot clear or cut engine power to the drive wheels during an emergency mechanical malfunction or a potential unintended acceleration event. Furthermore because the metal debris the truck exhibits severe erratic shifting behavior and a persistent risk of sudden high speed wheel lockup drivetrain binding or stalling inactive traffic. Ford motor company is fully aware of this component failure despite my vehicle exhibiting the exact failure mode the exact code PO73D and metal debris found has refused financial responsibility I urge the NHTSA to upgrade this known issue to a mandatory safety recall

NHTSA #26V104: I purchased this vehicle to rent it out on Turo (a vehicle sharing platform). It was de-listed from Turo on March 18 due to NHTSA #26V104 recall being unresolved. I have been unable to rent my vehicle since then and Ford has not provided a remedy to this recall. I would like to log a complaint that this software fix remedy has taken too long.

Ford has 25N09 addressing the axles for the 2022 Ford Mavericks built later in the 2021 year, but mine was built in September of 21. I have axle issues as well, and this is the first vehicle I've ever had that's this new and has clunking in the CV axles. Mine clunks loudly, and the truck has 114k on it.

The Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-04 Fuel Charging and Controls - Turbocharger - 2.0L/2.3L EcoBoost > Removal and Installation > Wastegate Control Actuator Linkage service procedure been added. In addition, the wastegate actuator rod (9E408), associated retention springs (9342) and retaining clips (00817) have been released as lower-level components to complete the repair without replacing the entire turbocharger wastegate actuator assembly.
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
