TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE TURNING INDICATORS WERE OPERATED, THERE WAS A LOUD ABNORMAL NOISE AS THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED FOLLOWED BY THE WHEN ATTEMPTING TO RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200,000.
AIR BAG SERVICE LIGHT CAME ON. IT IS INTERMITTENT. I HAD THIS SAME ISSUE WITH MY 2000 IMPALA. I DID TAKE MY 2009 IMPALA INTO DEALERSHIP FOR RECALL BACK IN 2010, REGARDING SEAT BELTS AND WAS TOLD THAT IT DIDN'T NEED TO BE FIXED. SEEING MY PREVIOUS IMPALA HAD THE SAME ISSUE FOR THE ENTIRE TIME I OWNED THAT VEHICLE, 178K MILES DRIVEN, I BELIEVE THIS IS A DEFECT IN THIS MODEL. I DIDN'T PAY FOR A NEW MODULE ON THE OLDER MODEL AS THE LIGHT WAS INTERMITTENT. I SEE ONLINE SOMETHING ABOUT PASSENGER SEAT BEING LOWERED OR PLACING AN ELECTRONIC DEVICE ON THE PASSENGER SEAT CAN CAUSE THIS. I WILL TRY TO MOVE SEAT AND NOT PLACE CELL PHONE ON SEAT. STILL THERE IS STILL AN ISSUE WITH THIS SYSTEM IF OTHERS ARE REPORTING THE SAME ISSUE. *TR
ON TWO OCCASIONS VEHICLE WENT INTO REVERSE AFTER SHIFTING FROM PARK TO DRIVE. VEHICLE GOING BACK TO DEALER SHOP FOR SECOND TIME FOR THIS INCIDENT. *AK *SLC

Refinishing Aluminum Wheels This bulletin updates General Motor's position on refinishing aluminum wheels. GM does not endorse any repairs that involve welding, bending, straightening o re-machining. Only cosmetic refinishing of the wheel's coatings, using recommended procedures, is allowed. Evaluating Damage In evaluating damage, it is the GM Dealer's responsibility to inspect the wheel for corrosion, scrapes, gouges, etc. The Dealer must insure that such damage is not deeper than what can be sanded or polished off. The wheel must be inspected for cracks. If cracks are found, discard the wheel. Any wheels with bent rim flanges must not be repaired or refinished. Wheels that have been refinished by an outside company must be returned to the same vehicle. The Dealer must record the wheel ID stamp or the cast date on the wheel in order to assure this requirement. Refer to Refinisher's Responsibility Outside Company later in this bulletin.

Underbody Component Corrosion The following information may be helpful when addressing underbody component corrosion with customers. Some customers may comment that one or more of their vehicle's underbody components are showing some form of corrosion. This corrosion may be red in appearance (rust) if the component is steel, forged iron or cast iron. This corrosion may also be grey or white in color if the component is constructed of an aluminum alloy.
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
