Component: Interior trim – driver-side sofa/dinette slide Georgetown 2024 5 Series 36B5 Complaint Description: The driver-side sofa/dinette slide trim in my 2024 Georgetown 5 Series 36B5 has detached and fallen into the coach interior on two separate occasions, creating a serious safety hazard. The first incident occurred while the vehicle was stationary. The trim fell inside the coach and narrowly missed my two-year-old child. This could have resulted in serious injury. The unit was repaired by Camping World under warranty. The second incident occurred while the vehicle was in motion. The same trim detached again, this time breaking through the screen door across from it in the living area, narrowly missing my head as passenger. This caused loud noise, panic, and a major distraction to the driver. It frightened our dog and created a near-crash situation. As the front passenger, I attempted to secure the falling trim to prevent it from striking our child passengers and nearly cut my hand on the broken material in the process. This is a repeat failure of the same component after repair, indicating a potential design, installation, or manufacturing defect. An interior component becoming a projectile while driving presents a serious safety risk to occupants. I am requesting that this issue be reviewed as a potential vehicle safety defect affecting this model. Please also note that Camping World is working with Ford to fix a clerical error on this model which is a 2024 NOT a 2023. I have reported these issues to both Forest River and Camping World. Currently awaiting resolution.

The contact 2024 Forest River Georgetown built on a 2023 Ford F53 Chassis. The contact stated while the motorhome was parked, the contact stated that earlier in the day a low-voltage error code was displayed on the air conditioner display unit. The Forest River RV dealer in Katy, Texas was contacted and instructed the contact to bring the motor home to the location for an inspection. The contact stated that later that same evening, the contact and his wife noticed and abnormal sound coming from the A/C and black smoke coming from the air conditioner and melted plastic falling on the floor. The contact went outside to inspect the exterior of the motorhome and noticed fire coming through the roof of the motor home. The contact yelled for his wife to exit the motorhome. The contact stated that while his wife was rushing to exit the motorhome, she fell and there was melted plastic on her head. The contact stated that the melted plastic fell on her head and right arm. The contact assisted his wife out of the motorhome. The Fire Department was called. The Fire Department extinguished the fire, and a fire report was filed. The contact's wife was treated on site and bandaged for the injuries sustained from the melted plastic. The motorhome was towed to a local tow yard. The motorhome was then towed to Camping World in Spring, TX, for warranty repairs that were not relevant to the failure. The contact stated that upon returning to the residence on November 27, the recall notification NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V771000 (Equipment) was in the mailbox. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. Additionally, the contact stated that several Forest River representatives were contacted and made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The motorhome was not repaired. At 60mph, the "Service Advancetrac" warning message comes on, along with the ABS and Traction Control warning lights. Cruise control is then inoperable as is Hill Start Assist. The problem persists even after extended periods of the vehicle being shut off, and immediately returns when 60mph is achieved. Multiple attempts to repair at the Ford dealership have failed, and the Ford Commercial Truck Center said this problem may take a few months to remedy if at all should they take it in for more service. Ford Motorhome service says this is a unique issue, yet the Motorhome message boards are full of threads on this and similar issues.

Manufacturer communications
A bulletin sent by a manufacturer to its dealers. Not a recall, and repairs are not necessarily free.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
The manufacturing plant installed a Mergeman which monitors and charges the house battery from the chassis battery or vice versa, depending on real-time voltage readings. The plant also installs a DC to DC Charger, which only allows electrical flow one way, from the chassis battery to the house battery and also monitors and charges the house batteries. So under certain circumstances, the Mergeman may not allow a charge to the house batteries, as it tries to signal for a charge, which the DC-DC Charger blocks. In these cases, the manufacturing plant is handling the removal of the Mergeman component.

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
