Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
0
InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

What owners report

Complaints grouped by the component NHTSA recorded

  • Airbags120.0%
  • Electrical120.0%
  • Interior & seats120.0%
  • Seat belts120.0%
  • Tires & wheels120.0%

Percentages are of component mentions. A single complaint can name more than one component, so these do not sum to the total complaint count.

Safety recalls

No recalls in our database for this model year

That does not guarantee a specific vehicle is unaffected — recalls are issued against VINs, and new campaigns are announced regularly. Check a VIN on NHTSA.gov.

SOMETIME BETWEEN 3-6 MONTHS AGO, I NOTICED THAT THE AIR BAG LIGHT AND TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT CAME ON IN MY 2007 NISSAN ROGUE. I TOOK THE CAR TO CORAL SPRINGS NISSAN (CORAL SPRINGS, BROWARD COUNTY, FL), WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM, IN ORDER TO GET THE VEHICLE REPAIRED BECAUSE I FOUND ONLINE VIA SAFERCAR.GOV AND/OR NISSAN'S WEBSITE THAT THERE WERE RECALLS FOR THE TWO (2) ISSUES THAT I WAS HAVING. WHEN I TOOK IT TO CORAL SPRINGS NISSAN, THEY TOLD ME THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH MY CAR AND THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON MY VEHICLE. THEY WANTED APPROXIMATELY $150 TO "LOOK AT" THE CAR. I LEFT AND RETURNED HOME AND CALLED FORT LAUDERDALE NISSAN (FORT LAUDERDALE, BROWARD COUNTY, FL) AND PERFORMANCE NISSAN (POMPANO BEACH, BROWARD COUNTY, FL) AND EXPLAINED THE SAME THING TO BOTH DEALERSHIPS THAT BOTH THE AIR BAG AND TIRE PRESSURE LIGHTS WERE ON AND THERE WERE RECALLS FOR BOTH ON MY CAR. I PROVIDED OVER THE PHONE THE VIN # FOR MY VEHICLE AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON MY CAR AND THAT IT WOULD BE VARIOUS AMOUNTS TO "LOOK AT" THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS RECENTLY IN AN ACCIDENT AND THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED, BUT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG DID NOT. WHEN I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO PERFORMANCE NISSAN TO HAVE IT FIXED, I INFORMED THEM OF THE ISSUE I WAS HAVING WITH THE AIR BAG LIGHT AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD LOOK AT IT AND TRY AND PUT IT THROUGH THE INSURANCE CLAIM. THE INSURANCE COMPANY INFORMED ME THAT THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIR BECAUSE IT WAS "A PREEXISTING CONDITION". I THEN LEARNED THROUGH NISSAN (CORPORATE) THAT APPARENTLY THE RECALL WAS "FIXED" IN JULY 2012 AT PERFORMANCE NISSAN. CLEARLY, THE ISSUE WAS NOT FIXED BECAUSE SOMETIME BETWEEN 3-6 MONTHS AGO, THE AIR BAG AND TIRE PRESSURE LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY WHEN THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG DID. *TR

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
