Recalls, owner-reported complaints, investigations and safety data

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.

InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:DRIVER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE

The defect: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2012-2017 NV Cargo and NV Passenger Van, 2013-2015 Titan and Armada and 2011-2012 Infiniti QX56 vehicles. Due to a manufacturing issue, the air bag inflator may not function properly or may rupture during deployment.
The risk: An inflator rupture may result in metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
The remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front driver air bag inflators, free of charge. The recall began May 7, 2020. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669 or Infiniti customer service at 1-800-662-6200.

EQUIPMENT:OTHER:LABELS

Dec 24, 2013
183 units potentially affected
The defect: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2014 model year Titan King Cab and Crew Cab pick-up trucks manufactured August 27, 2013, through November 13, 2013. In the affected vehicles, the Tire and Loading Information label overstates the maximum load and passenger carrying capacity of the vehicle. Thus, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims for Passenger Cars."
The risk: If the vehicle is loaded to the capacity stated on the incorrect label, and the tire load capacity is exceeded, the vehicle may experience structural damage to the tire. If this occurs, this may lead to tire failure which could increase the risk of a crash.
The remedy: Nissan will notify owners and will provide owners with a correct label to install, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on January 21, 2014. Owners may contact Nissan at 1-800-647-7261.

APPLIED BRAKES AND BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON. PEDAL WAS SOFT AND MADE A GRINDING SOUND. BRAKES STILL WORKED BUT NOT VERY WELL. CLEARED THE PROBLEM BY TURNING OFF ENGINE AND RESTARTING. THIS HAS HAPPENED BEFORE. I VIDEO TAPED WITH MY CELL PHONE BEFORE RESETTING. HAD THIS CHECKED SEVERAL YEARS AGO AND DEALER RESET SOMETHING. HE SAID IT MAY OR MAY NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. IT DIDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM. HE SAID THE COST TO REPLACE THE FAULTY PART WOULD BE APPROX.$900.00. I FEEL THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL AS IT IS A POTENTIAL HAZARD IF BRAKING HAD TO BE DONE SUDDENLY AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. *TR

They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
