The defect: ON CERTAIN MINI VANS, THE CLOCKSPRING ASSEMBLY MAY HAVE BEEN WOUND INCORRECTLY DURING THE VEHICLE ASSEMBLY PROCESS.
The risk: THIS CONDITION WILL MANIFEST ITSELF THROUGH ILLUMINATION OF THE AIR BAG WARNING LAMP, AND COULD EVENTUALLY RESULT IN A DRIVER'S AIR BAG OPEN CIRCUIT, IF THE PART IS NOT REPLACED IN A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME.
The remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE CLOCKSPRING ASSEMBLY ON ALL VEHICLES WITH 70,000 MILES OR LESS. AN EXTENDED LIFETIME WARRANTY WILL ALSO BE PLACED ON THIS COMPONENT FOR ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES, REGARDLESS OF MILEAGE. DAIMLERCHRYSLER WILL ALSO REIMBURSE OWNERS WHO HAVE PAID TO HAVE THE CLOCKSPRING REPLACED ON THEIR VEHICLES. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN NOVEMBER 18, 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT DAIMLERCHRYSLER AT 1-800-853-1403.

The defect: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: MINI VANS BUILT WITH 3.3L AND 3.8L ENGINES HAVE FUEL RAILS WITH NITROLE RUBBER O-RING SEALS THAT CAN DEGRADE OVER TIME. FUEL LEAKAGE FROM THE UNDERHOOD FUEL INJECTION FUEL RAIL COULD RESULT, INCREASING THE LIKELIHOOD OF A VEHICLE FIRE.
The risk: FUEL LEAKAGE IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE CAN RESULT IN A FIRE.
The remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A SEAL ON THE VEHICLE FUEL RAILS TO PREVENT EXTERNAL LEAKAGE OF FUEL FROM THE FUEL RAIL CROSSOVER TUBE, SHOULD THE EXISTING O-RINGS CONTINUE TO DEGRADE. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN ON JANUARY 25, 2002. DUE TO THE LARGE QUANTITY OF VEHICLES INVOLVED IN THIS CAMPAIGN, THE OWNER NOTIFICATION WILL BE PHASED OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL MONTHS. HOWEVER, IF A VEHICLE IS LEAKING FUEL FROM THE O-RINGS, THE VEHICLE SHOULD BE TAKEN INTO A DEALER TO HAVE THIS REPAIRED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. The defect: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: MINI VANS EQUIPPED WITH INTEGRATED CHILD SEATS. THE SHOULDER HARNESS RESTRAINT ON THE INTEGRATED CHILD SEAT CAN BECOME DIFFICULT TO EXTRACT WHEN THE SAFETY BELT LATCH PLATE BECOMES CONTAMINATED.
The risk: THIS CAN CAUSE DIFFICULTY IN RELEASING A CHILD FROM THE RESTRAINT.
The remedy: DEALERS WILL CLEAN THE LATCH MECHANISM. AN EXTENDER WILL BE ADDED TO THE EMERGENCY RELEASE ANCHOR FOR THE CHILD SEAT SAFETY BELTS SO THAT THE RELEASE CLIPS ARE MORE VISIBLE AND ACCESSIBLE TO THE OPERATOR IN THE EVENT THAT THE RETRACTOR MECHANISM CAN NOT BE UNLOCKED. IN ADDITION, AN INSTRUCTIONAL OWNER'S MANUAL SUPPLEMENT CARD WILL BE PROVIDED.

IN 2005 WHILE ENTERING ONTO THE HIGHWAY GOING HOME FROM SOME PERSONAL APPOINTMENTS A SMALL CAR HIT OUR FULL SIZE VAN FROM BEHIND AND CAUSED US TO FLIP OVER AND ROLL OVER 8 TIMES AND SLIDE AT LEAST 2 CITY BLOCKS BEFORE IT STOPPED. WE WERE NOT EVEN DOING THE SPEED LIMIT WHEN WE WERE HIT. THE FRONT WINDOW SHATTERED AND GLASS WAS IN OUR EYES BUT OUR AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. WE WERE STUCK UPSIDE DOWN MY SEAT BELT WAS STUCK AND MY HUSBAND HAD TO PULL ME OUT OF THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW. I HAD TO TREAT FOR TMJ PROBLEMS, STRESS AND TRAUMA IN MY NECK AND BACK FOR A FEW YEARS AND I STILL HAVE SOME ISSUES. DO WE HAVE A CLAIM AGAINST THE MANUFACTURER?

THE CONTACT WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 00V268000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE DUE TO THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 196,559.

I GOT IN THE VAN IN MY DRIVEWAY AND TURNED THE IGNITION SWITCH ON THEN I NOTICED THAT THE AIR BAG LIGHT WAS ON. SO I TURNED THE IGNITION SWITCH OFF WAITED A MINUTE THEN TURNED IT BACK ON AND THE LIGHT WAS STILL ON. I THOUGHT IT WAS A FUSE SO I PROCEEDED TO MY DESTINATION. AS I ARRIVED AT MY MOM'S HOUSE I TRIED TO BLOW THE HORN, THEN I FOUND OUT THAT MY HORN DID NOT WORK. SO I TURNED THE VAN OFF AND I CALLED A FRIEND WHO IS A MECHANIC AND HE ASKED ME IF THE AIR BAG LIGHT STAYED ON EVEN AFTER I TURNED THE VAN ON AND OFF I SAID YES THEN I EXPLAINED EVERYTHING TO HIM. HE TOLD ME THAT I NEEDED TO TRY MY CRUISE CONTROL. AND IF IT DID NOT WORK THEN MY CLOCKSPRING IS GONE. WELL CRUISE CONTROL DID NOT WORK. AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT IS STILL ON.

THE DRIVERS SIDE STRUT TOWER IS RUSTING OUT, BUT NOT ON THE TOP LIKE MOST OF THEM DO. 3/4 OF THE SIDE OF THE TOWER IS RUSTED AND GONE. THE PASSENGER SIDE STILL LOOKS GOOD. I WAS IN MY WAY TO WORK WHEN IT WAS RAINING EVER TIME IT RAINS THE BELTS COMES OFF THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. I HAD NO POWER STEERING AT ALL WHEN THIS HAPPEN WITH MUSCLE I MANAGED TO PULL OVER ONTO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. ONCE WATER HITS THE TENSION WHEEL BELT IT KNOCKS IT OFF WHICH MAKES IT SLIDE OFF EVERY TIME.
