2016 Chevrolet Camaro

I am filing an official safety complaint regarding a severe unaddressed factory design defect on my 2016 Chevrolet Camaro. The vehicle suffers from catastrophic water intrusion into the primary electrical system hub in the trunk during normal, everyday rain conditions. Due to a manufacturing or design failure in the rear trunk decklid seals and wiring harnesses, ordinary rainfall flows directly into the trunk floorboard. This standing water submerges the vehicle's primary battery, rear fuse block, and factory audio amplifier. This has disabled my infotainment/central command screen, causing a total electrical no-start condition. Most critically, this ongoing flooding creates a severe safety and crash hazard that compromises the vehicle's steering infrastructure. The previous Geneal Motor's safety recall regarding the electronic power steering (EPS) gear assembly losing connectivity when exposed to water was addressed, the unresolved trunk defect actively defeats that safety remedy. By allowing routine rainwater to freely pool over the main fuse block and electrical distribution network, the vehicle remains highly vulnerable to sudden, unpredictable power steering loss or total electronic shutdown while in motion. A vehicle that cannot withstand ordinary rain without experiencing total electrical failure and threatening critical steering components poses an immediate safety risk for me and my young children. I request that the NHTSA investigate this systemic trunk-flooding defect on the 2016 Camaro chassis.

Transmission failed, at under 100k miles. Reached out to Chevy after seeing all the transmission issues in the news, they were no help, they did not offer any type of warranty or recall, and we all know they have an issue. M06y vehicle is within the years of the recall, but they would not cover anything. Had to go an independent auto shop to have a new one installed.

Oh wow I don't even know where to start. The second I came home with the car for $32,995 off the used dealership it was a horrific disaster. I have replaced the rear fuse panel 2x already(water damage). The amp was fried from water damanage. The ambient lights and screen along with the gear lights only sometimes work. My morimoto aftermarket headlights wiring all have completely melted and needed to be replaced and that is just the small things. The car has always had severe driving malfunctions. These include: Jerking when putting into gear (any gear), shudders, it will rev up when i am braking, usuallu after a small hill or bump it will get really loud like it is in a much higher gear, it looses power and goes into random limp mode, the car has recently died in mid drive just completely lost acceleration power until it died. It will start right back up, but then same thing. Now when driving it will slightly jerk and steer to the side ever 3 seconds. Enough for me to hold the steering wheel tight. These are a few of the codes it reads, although some codes come and go, but these remain on: P12E7, P12EC, P12F4, P12F9, P0121, P0171, P0161, P0131, P069E, B097B, B1395, B1516, B1517, B260E, B260E, B2615, B2745, U0800, U1808, U0109, U007C. nOW MY BIGGEST PROBLEM IS THE CAR IS SO BAD IT IS NOT DRIVABLE AND NO ONE CAN TELL ME THE PROBLEM. IT VIOLENTLY JERKS WHEN TURNING AS IF SOMEONE HIT ME FROM BEHIND GOING 50MPH. iT USUALLY DOES IT WHEN I TURN THE WHEELS SLOWLY LIKE ON TURNS, BUT IT ALSO DOES IT WHEN STOPPING AT A RED LIGHT AND THE LIGHT TURNS GREEN IT JUST BOOOOOOM. iT IS SO LOUD AND AND SO VIOLENT IT IS AS IF MY BACK END FELL OFF. aLSO THE TIRES ARE LOCKED UP AND WHEN I TURN IT MAKES MY TIRE SCREAM. THESE PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN GOING ON SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND GOT IT HOME AROUND 70K MILES AND NOW I AM AT 160K WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS AND THEN SOME. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the transmission unexpectedly shifted from first gear to third gear, the vehicle shuddered abnormally, and then jolted into the next gear. The failure also occurred while the transmission was downshifting. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed, and it was determined that the torque converter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was 32,670.

The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Camaro. The contact stated that while driving at 15 MPH, the vehicle lost power steering functionality, requiring the contact to use excessive force to steer the vehicle. The contact stated that upon replacing the battery, the power steering feature returned for one day before the failure returned. While the vehicle was idling, the contact attempted to turn the steering wheel, and the message "Power Steering Assist Unavailable - Drive Safely" was displayed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 25V175000 (Steering) and 19V086000 (Steering); however, the model year was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in the recalls. The failure mileage was approximately 47,204.

The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Camaro. The contact stated that on the same day that the vehicle was purchased, the vehicle experienced a failure. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to immediately start-up. The dealer, Flori Auto Sales LLC, was contacted, and the dealer towed the vehicle to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with starter failure. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to Auto Zone, where it was diagnosed, and determined that the Transmission Fluid Temperature (TFT) Sensor "A" had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact called an independent mechanic and was informed that the dealer needed to repair the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. Once the vehicle was at the dealer, an employee used a handheld scanner, and the check engine warning light was no longer illuminated. The dealer informed the contact that the vehicle was repaired, and an emissions test was conducted without the contact's permission. The contact took the vehicle back to the residence. The contact stated that the cooling fan failed to function as intended. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to Auto Zone, and the contact was informed that DTC: P0128 and P0811were retrieved; however, the warning lights were no longer illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to an emissions testing center and was informed that the Transmission Fluid Temperature (TFT) Sensor "A" had failed and had not been repaired. The contact was informed that the vehicle had passed the emission test; however, a failure was present, and the vehicle should not have passed the test. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 185,100.

The contact stated that while driving over the train tracks at an undisclosed speed, the contact noticed that there was smoke and a burning odor coming through the vents. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact pulled over to the side of the road. The contact opened the hood and inspected the engine compartment, but the contact could not find the origin of the burning odor. The vehicle was towed to the residence, where the contact discovered that the smoke and the burning odor were coming from the starter that was 3 inches away from the exhaust manifold, by design. The contact purchased the starter from the dealer, and the contact replaced the starter; however, the failure persisted. The contact then noticed that the wires and the wiring harness of the starter were severely burned. The contact purchased the wires and the wiring harness from the dealer. The contact replaced the starter, the wires, and the wiring harness, and installed a custom-made heat shield between the starter and the exhaust manifold. Additionally, the contact stated that the steering wheel had failed to lock after turning off the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 59,000. The VIN was not available.
