CFAS PETITIONED THE AGENCY TO CONDUCT A DEFECT INVESTIGATION ON WINDSHIELD WIPER FAILURE ON 1989 AND LATER CHRYSLER MODELS WHICH SHOULD INCLUDE, BUT NOT LIMITED TO SPIRIT/ACCLAIM: DYNASTY/NEW YORKER/LANDAU; LANCE/LEBARON; SHADOW/SUNDANCE; CARAVAN/VOYAGER.HOWEVER, BASED ON ODI'S COMPLAINT RECORDS, ONLY CERTAIN MINIVANS WILL BE INVESTIGATED

The contact owns a 1992 Chrysler Town and Country. The contact stated that while the vehicle was in the driveway the brakes failed. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake actuator and actuator assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 96V099000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the OEM parts were no longer being manufactured. The failure mileage was unknown.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1992 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE BRAKES LOST POWER. THE CONTACT APPLIED EXCESSIVE FORCE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE AND AN UNKNOWN WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 96V099000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SJ DENHAM CHRYSLER JEEP FIAT (530-241-1756, LOCATED AT 772 N MARKET ST, REDDING, CA 96003) WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE RECALL WAS EXPIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT PROVIDED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1992 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE BRAKES FAILED AND THE BRAKE PEDAL BECAME DIFFICULT TO DEPRESS. WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT IMMEDIATELY STOP AND THE STOPPING DISTANCE WAS EXTENDED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT PARTS AND REPAIRS WERE NO LONGER AVAILABLE DO TO THE AGE OF THE VEHICLE. THE LOCAL DEALER (LETHIA CHRYSLER/JEEP IN CONCORD, CA) WAS ALSO NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT DID NOT ASSIST. BRAKES HARD TO PUSH UNRESPONSIVE HAD TO MECH SHOPS WORK ON VEHICLE UNABLE TO FIX
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1992 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. WHILE HAVING THE VEHICLE SERVICED, THE TECHNICIAN NOTIFIED THE CONTACT THAT THE ABS PUMP ACCELERATOR FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 96V099000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC); HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 113,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1992 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. WHILE DRIVING AWAY FROM THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, THE ABS MALFUNCTIONED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATE IMMEDIATELY AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE AND IT TURNED OFF AFTER A COUPLE OF MINUTES. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 96V099000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: ANTILOCK). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 190,000.
MY VEHICLE BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON ALONG WITH THE ANTI LOCK LIGHT. I COULD HEAR A HUM NOISE UNDER THE HOOD AT THE BRAKING UNIT. BRAKE PEDAL GOT VERY HARD AND HAD TO USE BOTH FEET ALONG WITH PUTTING THE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL TO SLOW DOWN AND STOP! BRAKING ABS SYSTEM WAS REPLACED BECAUSE OF SAME FAILURE 07/2009. NOW BEING TOLD NO DEALER HAS THE EQUIPMENT TO TEST THAT SYSTEM AND CHRYSLER CORP TOLD ME THERE IS NO WARRANTY ON THOSE PARTS! I WAS TOLD LAST TIME IT WAS REPLACED THAT THE PUMP/MOTOR UNIT WAS WARRANTED AS LONG AS I OWN THE VEHICLE AND ALL OTHER PARTS OF THAT UNIT EXTENDED WARRANTY OF 100,000 MILES. VEHICLE HAS BEEN SITTING THE LAST THREE YEARS! JUST DECIDED TO DRIVE IT AGAIN 11/2014. CAN GO OUT AND DRIVE IT RIGHT NOW AND EVERYTHING WORKS FINE. BUT BRAKES GIVE OUT AT ANYTIME, ALTHOUGH THE BRAKE LIGHT NO LONGER COMES ON! SEEMS ONCE THAT SYSTEM GETS TOO HOT THE BRAKES FAIL. LET IT SIT FOR A DAY OR TWO AND IT WORKS AGAIN! RIGHT NOW I CAN'T GET IT TESTED. EVERYONE SAYS THEY CAN'T DO IT. LAST DEALER THAT DID REPLACED THE UNIT HAD ME BRING THE VEHICLE THERE AGAIN. THEN CALLED ME AND SAID THEY HAD GOOD NEWS AND BAD NEWS. GOOD NEWS WAS THEY HAD THE PART. BAD NEWS THEY COULDN'T TEST THE SYSTEM FOR GO AHEAD FROM CHRYSLER TO REPLACE IT. CHRYSLER TODAY SAID SORRY, AND HOPE WE CAN BE OF SERVICE TO YOU IN THE FUTURE! NOW WHAT? PS- SINCE TALKING TO CHRYSLER AFTER CONTACTING THEM AGAIN, THAT DEALER NOW SAYS THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE THE PART ANYMORE! AFTER BEING ASKED BY CHRYSLER HOW DO THEY HAVE THE PART IN STOCK BUT CAN'T TEST THE SYSTEM! *TR

THE CONTACT HAD TO EXERT EXTREME FORCE IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ABS HYDRAULIC UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 96V099000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
