Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.

InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.

Sep 17, 2026
23,677 units potentially affected
The defect: Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain 2019-2024 Land Rover Range Rover Sport, 2020-2024 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, Land Rover Range Rover, Land Rover Discovery Sport, Land Rover Defender, 2021-2024 Land Rover Range Rover Velar, Jaguar E-Pace, F-Pace, and Land Rover Discovery vehicles. The DC-DC converter may malfunction due to an electrical overload that can occur during high power demand. Additionally, a software error can cause the DC-DC converter to stop functioning at vehicle start-up under certain circumstances. Failure of the DC-DC converter will result in the loss of 12-Volt system charging and can lead to complete loss of drive power and exterior lighting.
The risk: A loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash.
The remedy: Dealers will update the vehicle software, free of charge. Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk are expected to be mailed November 13, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available. Owners may contact Land Rover's customer service at 800-637-6837. Land Rover's number for this recall is E008. This recall expands previous NHTSA recall number 26V248.

Front Steering Knuckle Fractures

Opened Apr 24, 2026

The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) is upgrading its Preliminary Evaluation (PE25006) of front steering knuckle fractures on model year (MY) 2014 through 2017 Range Rover Sport vehicles to an Engineering Analysis.  ODI opened PE25006 on June 27, 2025, after receiving 12 Vehicle Owner's Questionnaire (VOQ) reports of the front aluminum steering knuckles fracturing in these vehicles. The reports describe the fractures occurring at the joint where the steering knuckle attaches to the upper control arm ball joint in one or both steering knuckles.  Fracture of the front suspension knuckle can lead to detachment of the upper suspension arm. Detachment of the upper suspension arm results in the driver’s inability to control the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash. ODI reviewed information supplied by Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) in response to Information Request letters as well as reviewed the data with JLR on numerous occasions. ODI further reviewed relevant data on a peer vehicle with a significantly similar steering knuckle design, the MY 2014 through 2017 Range Rover.  Much of the information is contradictory and requires a deeper analysis that is available in an Engineering Analysis. On August 5, 2025, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) filed safety recall 25V514.  This recall covers certain MY 2014 and all MY 2015-2017 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport vehicles.  The remedy for recall 25V514 addresses knuckles with and without a visible fracture.  Knuckles that have developed a visible fracture will be replaced with a new knuckle of a substantially similar design.  Knuckles with no fracture visibly present will have a brace attached to the upper portion of the front steering knuckle.  JLR states that the purpose of the brace is to prevent the component from completely separating should a fracture develop. NHTSA continues to receive allegations of fractures occurring in the front steering knuckles of Range Rover and Range Rover Sport vehicles.  Two of the most recent VOQs received by ODI involve front steering knuckle fractures occurring on MY 2020 and MY 2021 Range Rover L405 vehicles.  ODI will continue to investigate the component design and assess the potential safety risk as part of this Engineering Analysis and evaluate the recall remedies for Recall 25V514.  Further, the scope of this Engineering Analysis will be expanded to include MY 2018-2022 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport vehicles as they have a substantially similar component design. My car has approximately 65000 miles on it. I purchased the car in December 2021 for about $120,000. The car has only been serviced by Land Rover. The car needs a new engine which is $46,000. I owe $12,700 on the car. The dealership told me an animal had chewed. They told me this for 2 weeks. Now they are saying there was no animal involved. The Geico inspector has not seen the car.

Filed Feb 24, 2026

On the previous day, The vehicle began with notifying me that the battery needed charging and recommended starting the vehicle to charge it. This was done and drove home from work. Next day same notification but when I started driving, the car started losing power, no acceleration at all. Drove for about 3 minutes without ability to accelerate, then suddenly there was no power, just rolling, in a busy street. Pulled over into a business premises and called tow. Dealer informed me the DC to DC converter was bad and needed replacement at 2k, this part was also in back order so no timeline on completion.

Stopped at red light -- while waiting there came a very loud bang in back. I got out to inspect the rear and found the back window was fully crazed with two sizeable holes. I could find nothing that might explain the damage -- no projectiles in our outside the car -- no damage to the car other than a decimated rear window. By the time i got home the window was 80% broken in with the trunk area filled with shards. Another search (including with police) found nothing to explain the issue. Seems to be a manufacturing failure perhaps triggered by atmospheric events (temp or pressure changes)?

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
