My 06 s60 has blown 3 charge air hoses in the EXACT same spot. (The hose behind the radiator.) A golf-ball sized hole blows out in a bend in the hose while driving. The car will idle , but throttle up at all. The dealer says this is a fluke.

I was expected to pay over one thousand dollars to have the recall remedy performed. My home and location of car is Ketchikan, Alaska. There is no Volvo dealer in Ketchikan and no roads connecting town with the mainland road system. The car would have to be shipped by either aircraft or oceangoing vessel to the mainland for access to a Volvo dealer. This would cost a lot of money. I perform all maintenance and repairs myself so I contacted Volvo asking then to ship me the air bag for installation. Volvo responded that I must take the car to a dealer at my own expense. The practical reality is that transporting the car to a dealer for this (or any other recall) is completely unreasonable, making it virtually impossible to have the recall repair performed unless Volvo will simply supply the part so I can install it.

A FEW MONTHS BACK, THIS VEHICLE WAS LEAKING GASOLINE FROM THE AREA OF FUEL PUMP. THE FUEL PUMP IS LOCATED UNDER THE REAR SEAT OF THE VEHICLE, SO THERE WAS ALSO A STRONG ODOR INSIDE THE CAR. THE VEHICLE FUEL TANK WAS FILLED JUST PRIOR TO THIS HAPPENING. SO, FOR 20 MILES, MYSELF AND MY WIFE WERE SUBJECTED TO GASOLINE FUMES, AND AT THE SAME TIME, RAW GASOLINE WAS SPILLING UNDERNEATH THE CAR WHILE DRIVING. MY REPAIR SHOP DIAGNOSED, AND REPAIRED CAR BY INSTALLING A NEW FUEL PUMP. AFTER FURTHER INVESTIGATION , I HAVE FOUND THAT VOLVO CARS DID RECALL, AND REPAIR SOME MODELS OF 2003 AND 2005... EVEN MY 2004 WAS REIMBURSED FOR THIS. I BELIEVE THAT VOLVO KNOWS THAT'S THERE IS A PART DEFECT, NOT A PART FAILURE... THIS IS A STATIONARY, HARD COMPOSITE PLASTIC THAT IS THE SAME CULPRIT AS THE EARLIER YEARS INVOLVED. I AM ASKING THE NHTSA TO FURTHER INVESTIGATE VOLVO CARS TO INSURE THAT NO ONE ELSE HAS THIS SCARE. IT COULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC FOR MYSELF AND ALL OTHERS ON THE ROADS THAT DAY

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
