Recall 23V-413 Post Remedy Failures
On June 8, 2023, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles US, LLC (FCA) filed Safety Recall 23V-413 affecting certain 2022–2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee and2021–2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L vehicles to address rear coil springs that may not have been properly installed during vehicle production. An improperly installed rear coil spring may detach while the vehicle is in motion, creating a road hazard that can increase the risk of a crash for following motorists and may result in injury to other road users. Since the filing of Recall 23V-413, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has received twenty (20) unique consumer complaints alleging rear coil spring detachments occurring after the recall remedy was performed. These reports raise concerns regarding the effectiveness of the recall remedy and suggest the possibility of additional factors not addressed by the original recall campaign. Accordingly, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) is opening this Recall Query (RQ) to assess the adequacy of FCA’s remedy procedure under Recall 23V-413 and to evaluate the root cause(s) of post-remedy coil spring detachments. ODI will review complaint data, field reports, and FCA’s technical analysis to determine whether further action is warranted. Pedestrian alert sounds
NHTSA received a petition on or about July 18, 2022, requesting that Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the United States. The petition can be reviewed at NHTSA.gov under ODI Number 11486072. FMVSS 141 establishes performance requirements for pedestrian alert sounds for motor vehicles. The standard applies to hybrid and electric vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,536 KG or less or are defined as low-speed vehicles. The standard became fully applicable to all such vehicles manufactured on or after March 1, 2021.On January 27, 2023, NHTSA opened Defect Petition (DP) 22-005 to evaluate the subject matter described in the petition. On June 24, 2023 and as supplemented on June 25, 2023, the petitioner notified NHTSA he was withdrawing his petition. The petitioner indicated that, based on his review of data, there is no justification for asserting potential benefits that could be derived from actions sought by my petition. Based on the petitioner's withdrawal, DP22-005 is closed. Closure of this DP does not represent a determination by NHTSA regarding the subject matter of the petition.

Vehicle Information: Year / Make / Model: 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland 4xe Component(s) Involved: Engine / Hybrid Powertrain / Electrical System / Sudden Loss of Drive Power Current Mileage: Approximately 48,000mi Incident Summary I am filing this complaint because my 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland 4xe has developed a dangerous new defect following an official recall service: the engine completely dies while accelerating on the highway. I took my Jeep to an authorized dealership to have the safety recall performed for the engine shutdown issue. Before this recall work was completed, I had never experienced the vehicle dying on the highway. Since the recall "fix," however, the engine has cut out completely 4 separate times while accelerating at high speeds. The most recent time happened today (August 3, 2026). Losing all pedal response and motive power in fast-moving traffic with no warning is terrifying and creates an extreme hazard for myself and everyone around me. History of Vehicle Issues & Extended Shop Time This sudden highway stalling comes on top of severe, ongoing electrical problems that have plagued this Jeep. Altogether, the vehicle has spent months sitting in the dealership shop, yet the problems remain unfixed: Post-Recall Engine Shutdowns: 4 separate complete power loss incidents while accelerating on the highway (latest occurrence: August 3, 2026). Unresolved Battery Drain: Ongoing parasitic battery drain that kills the battery, requiring multiple rounds of diagnostics without a solution. Pervasive Electrical Glitches: Frequent system glitches, including frozen touchscreens, instrument cluster reboots, random dash warning lights, and connectivity drops. Media Hub Issues: Hardware problems involving the media hub module. Requested Action The recall fix did not solve the safety hazard—it seems to have triggered a new, life-threatening stalling issue on the highway, along with the string of other issues, it's unsafe to drive.

My vehicle has multiple software and electrical issues that Jeep has been unable to diagnose or repair, and there is currently no recall addressing these problems. One of the most serious issues is that the vehicle will randomly switch the display language from English to Italian while I am driving. When this happens, the speedometer changes from miles per hour (MPH) to kilometers per hour (KPH), making it difficult to know my speed without pulling over and manually changing the language back to English. This creates an unnecessary safety concern. Additionally, the automatic door lock feature no longer functions properly. Although the dealership has repaired it in the past, the problem has returned. I also continue to receive a dashboard warning indicating that the Forward Collision Warning system is disabled, even though the feature is clearly enabled in the vehicle's settings. This inconsistency raises concerns about whether the safety system is functioning as intended. Another ongoing issue is that the vehicle randomly drains its battery. Both AutoZone and the dealership have tested the main battery and the auxiliary battery, and both have been found to be in normal working condition. Despite this, the battery drain continues to occur without explanation randomly. These recurring software and electrical problems have become unacceptable. Jeep has been unable to provide a permanent solution, and I believe the company should stand behind its product by acknowledging and resolving these issues.

The contact owns a 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 MPH, the lights on the instrument panel became dark and the vehicle stalled. The failure had occurred on several occasions. The vehicle was taken back to the residence; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.

Car back end noise. Back end raised with front end down. Car had no cushion when going over small bumps in road. Handling and steering was not normal at speed above 35. Service suspension immediately displayed. Car is 2022 with 17,302 miles. Car is at dealer now. They want lots of money to repair suspension

The 12-volt auxiliary battery on this 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe plug-in hybrid repeatedly discharges to a completely dead state while the vehicle is parked and switched off. The vehicle has failed three times in approximately 30 days. First failure, June 26, 2026: the vehicle would not start. Numerous fault codes were stored across multiple modules, including P0562 (system voltage low). The odometer display was flashing, indicating a module had dropped off the communication bus. Second failure, July 13, 2026: less than 48 hours after returning from a road trip and parking, the same condition recurred. The vehicle required external 12-volt power to start. Third failure, July 26, 2026: a brand-new AGM battery had been installed on July 24, 2026. Within 48 hours of installation the battery measured 5.85 volts — fully discharged. An 80Ah battery discharging in 48 hours indicates a continuous parasitic draw of roughly one amp, which is 20 to 40 times the normal key-off draw for a sleeping vehicle. Owner testing has ruled out both the battery and the charging system. The DC-DC converter was measured delivering 127 amps at 13.9 volts, confirming it functions. The replacement battery accepts and holds a full charge, resting at 13.06 volts after recharge. The previous battery passed a printed conductance and load test. During each failure, the entire camera system and the ParkSense park assist system drop out simultaneously and the odometer flashes. Stored codes include U0159-00 (lost communication with parking assist control module) and B2204-00 (ECU configuration mismatch). Separately, and even when the 12-volt system is healthy, the rear backup camera intermittently fails to activate at startup and sometimes only begins working after 5 to 10 minutes of driving. Safety concerns: 1. Rear visibility. The backup camera intermittently does not display an image when the vehicle is placed in reverse. 2. Loss of motive power. 3. Stranding

I just experienced a 2nd engine stall event. I was driving thru a neighborhood at 25 mph in 5th gear, lifted off the gas pedal as I approached a 90 degree uphill turn, and in the middle of the turn (approx 20 mph) the engine stalled and I lost all propulsion. I retired from Stellantis after 16 years working as a contract transmission calibrator, so I am very familiar with what happened. When I lifted off the gas pedal the engine attempted to enter decel fuel shut off (dfso). I was watching the real time gas mileage and right before the corner I saw the mpg approaching 99 mpg (a clear indication the engine is entering fuel shut off). A second later the real time mpg started decreasing (indicating it was attempted to exit dfso) when the stall occurred. This is a MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE in need of a recall.

Unknown On XXX, our 2022 Certified Pre-Owned Jeep Cherokee Hybrid was brought to the West Plains location for a factory safety recall or recalls and the check engine light on. During the software installation, the technician improperly executed the procedure, took the Integrated Dual Charger Module (IDCM) offline, and completely disabled the vehicle. The West Plains Repair Order explicitly states: "Caused by codes for IDCM and module offline, will not come back online, and has disabled vehicle." Because the vehicle was rendered completely undriveable, it had to be flatbed-towed 90 miles to James River Jeep in [XXX] to resolve the corrupted modules. The Ozark service department confirmed the vehicle arrived disabled due to West Plains' improper procedure and required a new battery to restore system diagnostics. The West Plains General Manager, [XXX], flatly refused to cover the resulting $1,100+ invoice for the battery ($638.71) and towing fees. Mr. [XXX] used intimidating tactics, completely dismissed our concerns, and claimed his dealership 'chooses not to work on hybrid batteries' to evade financial responsibility. This claim is demonstrably false; on October 23, 2025, this exact same location successfully accepted and completed Federal Safety Recall 73C to reprogram our vehicle's Hybrid Control Processor software. A franchise dealership cannot choose to opt out of federal recall obligations on a whim, nor should a consumer be subjected to hostile intimidation when a dealer damages their property. Due to the absolute lack of cooperation locally, the vehicle currently sits unpaid at the Ozark dealership. Formal complaints have been filed with the Missouri Attorney General's Consumer Protection Divisionand the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) using Jeep Case #XXX. We are requesting that Corporate Management review this case immediately and coordinate a direct dealer-to-dealer credit to James River Jeep to resolve this INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5

While parked my 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee WK (VIN:[XXX]), BOTH the driver and front passenger Active Head Restraints (AHR) spontaneously and violently deployed forward within a couple weeks from each other. There was absolutely NO vehicle collision, crash impact, or structural trauma to trigger a safety sensor deployment. Upon physical inspection of the deployed internal mechanisms, both factory-installed units carry legacy Mopar part number 68058539AD and sequential assembly serial numbers [XXX] and [XXX]. The internal structural plastic pins pinning back the high-tension loaded safety springs degraded, fatigued, and snapped completely on their own. altering the front occupants' driving posture, obstructing clear sightlines, and rendering the whiplash dynamic safety equipment entirely non-functional. The vehicle manufacturer (Stellantis / Jeep) is actively refusing to service or replace this failed safety equipment under the known 10-year AHR component warranty extension (Mopar Warranty Bulletin #23-018-20), citing a localized family ownership transfer.
